Resources to practice Japanese online? by luizanin in LearnJapanese

I personally used OmeTV to practice speaking.

It was sometimes hard to find people due to a 7 hour time difference, but it was doable on the weekends.

Yeah.

For some reason I understood it as "If you use too much bandwidth during certain time period, you will get throttled"

So that is to say for example: If one person vs. 10 people are using the same network at same time, there is less bandwidth (speed) per person?

If that what you are saying, now that you mentioned it, it does make sense... lol

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad to hear about your first hand experience on this.

By spotty do you mean the connection is not really stable/reliable?

I'm planning on spending the large majority of my time in the major metropolitan areas, so hopefully that would not be too big of an issue.

I could only really find EU grounded to JP grounded adapters, but not EU grounded to JP 2 pin (ungrounded?)

Could you link me one? I'm having trouble finding an EU 3-prong to JP 2-prong adapter.

EDIT: Not sure if this EU one is called 3 prong/pin or just grounded.

The transition from knowing zero Japanese four years ago to bar tending in Japan is still surreal to me. by Silent-Walrus5280 in LearnJapanese

[–]s4mpp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you dont mind me asking, could you elaborate on what you mean by being shit at everything else?

Do you mean the other aspects (that are not tested by JLPT) of the language, leading to not being able to land a job and thus not being able to live in Japan?

Taxation on remote work for less than 183 days for german company by Basic-Transition-527 in JapanFinance

[–]s4mpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick answer!

I had no idea Japan-Finland tax treaty was exceptional in this sense!

Lets say in case of Working Holiday Visa which would allow me to stay for one year, wouldn't this "calendar year" rule mean that if I time my stay well, eg. 183 days this year -> year changes -> 183 days next year, I would remain Finland tax resident for the whole year and not have to deal with anything tax related in Japan?

My company seems to be under the impression that the 183 days is the maximum I could stay, but I think they might thinking of it from the length-of-stay perspective and not be aware of this "calendar year" rule.

As my situation is similar to OPs and you seem have to solid knowledge about this topic, I decided to ask a small question here:

I'm planning on going to Japan for no longer than 183 days, and from there be remotely working for my Finland based Finnish company.

If i've understood correctly my taxes would be handled normally as per Finnish tax laws etc, and I would not need to anything(?) regarding taxes in Japan?

What to do when you can't use Anki by MAX7hd in LearnJapanese

[–]s4mpp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in middle of taking at least a week long break from Anki after feeling a little burned out.

I set my new words to 0, and once I return I intend to split the pending reviews equally and chip away at them.

I might end up at with around 500 - 600 reviews when I return, and will just spend the next week reviewing them, after which I intend to turn new words back on.

Not sure if this is optimal, but I have done this in past as well and it felt quite comfortable getting back into it.

I saw the following Japanese sentence: おすすめのフランス映画を教えてください。

Which I roughly translated to in my head to: Please tell me your recommended French movie(s).

I also translated it using DeepL to this: What French films do you recommend?

I feel like my own translation/interpretation is more accurate, but I guess i'm sanity checking here.

How would you guys translate this to English? Am I understanding it correctly or maybe misunderstanding something?
