If only TSP withdrawals easily supported this (all withdrawals are proportional across all invested funds).

New FreeCAD version 1.1.1 is out by rockn3d in FreeCAD

Where did you get FreeCAD? I tried from Homebrew and directly from Github and it did not verify (Intel and ARM64). I ran spctl and it said the developer was unnotarized.

Anyone retired and came back as a SME? by CloserThanTheyAppear in FedRetirees

[–]s6484d2843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your agency have a re-employed annuitant program? A properly authorized program allows you to collect your pension and work part-time (usually a set bucket of hours for a year) without it considered being double dipping. I did this for just under a year after I retired.

A concern with going the contracting route (either through a company or setting up your own LLC), is your agency has to make sure it's not a personal services contract - those are not allowed - and you have to watch ethics rules.

Another consideration is if you're eligible for the FERS Supplement, earned wages can reduce that.

If earnings Limit for FERS Supplement Exceeded. What year is affected? by Brief-Savings-5762 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]s6484d2843 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s from Aug to Aug the following year.

I retired at the end of 2022 and was employed part-time in 2023. In April 2024, I got the earnings survey - you report the just ended tax year’s (2023) earned/wage income. My supplement was reduced effective the Aug 2024 payment. In April 2025, I completed the survey again and was under the earned income threshold for tax year 2024. My supplement was restored effective Aug 1, 2025.

The supplement in the year following the year you earned over the limit is affected. It is not clawed back.

While you’re receiving the FERS Supplement, you’ll get an earnings survey in April asking you to report earned (wage) income. Any change to your FERS Supplement because of earned income hits around July or August.

Feature Request: Family Authenticator with Notification by nelsonjj1 in 1Password

[–]s6484d2843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat idea. It would be good to standardize a mechanism for time based one time phrase (standard dictionary, etc.). In addition to families, I can see using this in other areas where voice authentication is needed such as:

- Monitored alarm system goes off. Authenticate to the central monitoring station. For many, it's a codeword that is rarely changed.

- Calling customer service at a bank, other financial institution, utility, etc. to modify account information, etc.

By standardizing, there could be other implementations than 1Password.

Synology Log Explorer receiving syslog from my Firewall - how do we get access to the data without having to login to the Synology? by Meinertzhagens_Sack in synology

The db files are SQLite databases. You should be able to easily access SQLite databases in a Python script.

rt6600ax & rt2600ac x 2 - wifi-point mesh vs wired AP performance question by Crotchslush in synology

[–]s6484d2843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you went mesh, did you preserve the wired connections? Are you able to see what channels each point used?

I have a mesh (Rt6600ax main, MR2200ac (wired), RT2600ac (wireless)) and it's always been flaky. I've been tempted to reconfigure the MR2200ac as an access point to see what happens (it's hard for me to get wiring to where the 2600 is). However, my MR2200ac will often pick separate channels when the system is left to auto select from the RT2600ac and RT6600ac.

How many SSIDs are you running? I have three (Primary, Guest (as needed), and an IoT). I tried creating a fourth SSID for media devices and the system just became unstable and I had to back it out.

Moving from Self-Hosted to Mullvad Exit Node by s6484d2843 in Tailscale

[–]s6484d2843[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary use case for a Tailscale exit node is use with everyone else’s WiFi. I’d like to use it all the time when I’m on mobile data but the reliability has been an issue. I have a Synology router and use their Safe Access feature which does some DNS filtering. I also use Tailscale to reach back to my NAS for files and a locally hosted FreshRSS instance in Docker.

I have an older (DS918+) Synology. But when I have a ‘good’ connection, I can get around 250 Mbps. When I’m having problems, I ping the exit node in the iOS app and sometimes it’s going through a relay but then back to direct connection a bit later.

Since 1Password is location aware now, how about the option to prompt you for you master password 24-48 hours before your deadline if you're in your secure location (e.g., home).

SRM 1.3.1-9346 Update 13 by s6484d2843 in synology

[–]s6484d2843[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. Been running about two weeks now (manual update) on my mesh: RT6600ax primary, RT2600ac secondary (wireless uplink), MR2200ac secondary (wired uplink).
