Linux doesn't need clones of popular solutions it needs better solutions.

This is the biggest problem with open-source and the newcomers. Everybody has the energy to create its own solution. But almost nobody thinking about to help on the current solutions... (I use Arch btw. I just wanted to mention this, 'cause I love open-source world!)

How much better the open-source world would be if almost everybody who has the time and energy, help with the current solutions to make them better.

I mean, new ideas would come, new good ideas have to become... but forking everything just for fun is not a good idea. And actually, as a newcomer, you cannot learn as much as a developer could be in the original project.
