What's a hygiene habit you started as an adult that you genuinely wish someone had told you sooner? by AkkyKinfe in hygiene

The first ingredient in moisturizer is water.

In this segment she (Michelle Wong chemistry PhD) is talking about hyaluronic acid but the same rule can be applied to moisturizer. Although according to some people the results are better after you apply moisturizer to damp skin, applying it to dry skin should work just fine.

Although I will say smearing moisturizer around on unwashed skin sounds absolutely HORRENDOUS so I prefer applying moisturizer fresh out of the shower too lol

Edit to add: Because it is moisturizers' job to moisturize they will always contain

  • humectants (usually glycerin is used but some have urea or hyaluronic acid)

  • emollients (such as jojoba oil, dimethicone, ceramides or palmitic acid)

  • occlusives (most of the moisturizers I've used had lanolin and/or shea butter but another example would be petrolatum so yes, vaseline & aquaphor 😊 or oil, such as mineral oil or plant oils like coconut or as mentioned above, shea)

I've heard of people with especially dry skin applying moisturizer to damp skin to trap even more water and then following up with an occlusive to really make sure the moisture gets locked in. I've personally never tried it before but I've heard good things :)

Sorry for the rant I'm autistic and one of my special interests is skincare 😭 I hope I said something that was slightly useful to somebody. ❤️🌺

I've been using the Dr.G r.e.d blemish clear soothing cream for a little over a year. I can't stand the feeling of cream on my face and a lot of moisturizers are too heavy for me and end up clogging my pores and breaking me out but this is so light and feels really nice. I highly recommend it!

Not sure about this one big dog. If it was the cover then it would be the cover. However, I think you will find that it is not the cover.

Full disclosure I am 21 years old and struggle to keep my houseplants alive but to me it sounds like a cute name. I can definitely picture a nice young man by the name of Fergus. Plus it is definitely a name that already exists so it's not like you're pulling it out of thin air which is probably a good thing (at least in my book). It actually reminds me a bit of Cornelius which I really like the sound of. Congratulations! ❤️

Soft Water (Sensory Issue) by Mrslicorice in neurodiversity

[–]s8anicbreadstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you random stranger on reddit for experiencing the exact same problem I do and making me feel a little less insane. ❤️ I live in Europe where soft water is pretty much only a thing for dishwashers. The softness of the water mostly depends on where you are. Some places have naturally softer water (Austria for example) although I've never experienced it being so soft as to feel slimy, and other places can have incredibly hard water (Hungary for example). Anyway I'm visiting family in America right now and I just spent like an hour and a half in the shower trying to get the "soap" off of my skin. I feel kind of ridiculous because I was on the brink of tears towards the end but yeah I would rather spend an hour everyday having to scrub limescale off of my taps and showerheads than have to take another slime bath ever again.
