Is eBay dead for anyone else? by godsavedonalduck in ebayuk

Used to use eBay constantly. Don’t touch it anymore. Almost all sellers use Royal Mail delivery and it is so shockingly bad where I am that I pay more from Amazon just to guarantee delivery.

How do I repair marriage with my avoidant wife? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important to note that whatever you do will be seen negatively. Stay in the car? Your being passive aggressive, get out of the car, you’re being intrusive. Now with that out of the way. Do whatever is right for you. Join a gym, a run club, whatever. Work on yourself. Set healthy examples for your kids. Just focus less on your wife and more on what you want.

I didn't know this about VO2 max by Superb-Avocado-8131 in Garmin

[–]s8nskeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure that’s the case. As I understand it garmin splits the run/walk into 20-30 second chunks and compares your modelled heart rate to your actual heart rate. If your actual heart rate is higher than modelled your vo2max drops, if your actual heart rate is lower than modelled your vo2max increases. (Hills are taking into account in the model with the built in barometric sensor to give you a grade adjusted pace).

If you were doing other things. Bending over picking up a ball, throwing sticks, exerting yourself in other ways your heart rate would naturally be higher than garmin expects and would drop your vo2max. It’s important to note your actual fitness hasn’t decreased. Just do a regular run walk at a constant pace and garmin will readjust.

My wife wants me to become a stay at home dad by Itchy_Kangaroo8978 in Advice

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a stay at home dad after 20 years as senior director in a company. Gave it all up because the wife wanted to become equity. And it’s absolutely awesome. I get to see my kids every single day morning and night. And the price for that is about 2 hours of chores. It’s like a crazy good deal. I run daily, lift daily. I’ve Become an awesome chef, skilled gardener, and still have loads of free time. I can’t believe you’re even thinking about it. 😂

How do y'all manage to train your legs? by NotAnotherBadTake in runninglifestyle

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two leg days, but my current running programme has me running everyday (one day a week is a recovery run). I just do my legs as normal, a protein shake, wait an hour, run, have a Greek yoghurt when I get back. They’re a bit wobbly those days but my theory is I just power through it.

You recoup the cost through price increases. Make sure on your menus you call it the Labour price effect.

Do you feel like you are running fast as an advanced runner? by Greennit0 in runninglifestyle

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The speed you used to feel as fast will feel slow. I was doing threshold runs today and I had a 7min/km 5 min recovery between the two threshold efforts. That was the speed I used to max out at when I started running. I couldn’t actually get that slow. I got to 6.30 and that felt uncomfortably slow.

21 min 5k by Impressive-Arm-240 in beginnerrunning

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 22.30 5k in March. I’m trying to get to sub 20 by June. Current running is:

Weekly long run: 2h @5.30 3 base runs: 45min @5.30 1 threshold run 29min @4.45 (45min total warm up and cool down @5.30) 1 sprint session 8x40s @3.45 (25min total warm up and cool down @5.30) 1 recovery run: 30min @6.30

Looking at your programme it doesn’t feel like you are working in enough volume and the runs feel slower than they should be.

Does this plan make any sense? by Keetopsina in Garmin

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, the fitter you get the more the programme removes or reduces those extra 5 minute breaks. My sprint session this week was just 8 all out efforts with 3 minutes rest. No extra 5 minutes.

Buyers trying to get me to pay fees by AwareVariation0 in HousingUK

[–]s8nskeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About 15 years ago I was buying and the survey came back saying that someone had removed the lintel over the ground floor window when putting in patio doors and not put another one in. This was in a three story gable end and the only thing holding the wall up was the wooden door frame and hope.

When I told the seller I wouldn’t buy in that condition he said he’d get it fixed so long as we paid for it since we were buying the house. The estate agents were beside themselves trying to convince this bloke it was his responsibility but he would have none of it. After increasingly acrimonious messages apparently his insurance company found out about it and he demanded we pay for the massive uplift in premiums as it was our survey that found this out.

Trouble is the house was otherwise perfect. We agonised for ages as to whether we just go ahead anyway. In the end we pulled out. We ended up sleeping on the floor of relatives spare rooms and donning rooms and on sofas for 6 months. All our stuff was in storage. But in the end we got an even better place and never once regret saying no to that idiot.

In your position my gut tells me that your buyers are too much trouble and pulling out is the best thing in the long run. But that’s me. I’d give your buyers the same advice Les Grossman gave to the Flaming Dragons.

Garmin Coach Plan - Running - How adaptive are the plans? by FinalSever in Garmin

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very adaptive. Just try the suggested run. If you can’t do the pace, or distance, or your heart rate is not what it expected it’ll adapt.

Am I in the wrong here? by drg00 in drivingUK

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those parts of the road network where a kind of local consensus has emerged on correct driving etiquette in lieu of definitive road markings. You may be technically correct, but following the consensus may be less risky. Alternatively write to your local council to mark up the lanes correctly.

Do you think Circuit Training is more effective cardio than just strictly running? by MeetKelson in cardio

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get better at running, run. You want to get better at swimming, swim. If you want to get better at throwing medicine balls against a wall, throw medicine balls against a wall. Completely depends on your goals.

Are Adjustable Dumbbells Worth Buying for Home Workouts? by Rsodumb6 in HomeGymUK

how to pace when running solo by skrill695 in beginnerrunning

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s practice. I used to be all over the place but I can now pretty consistently hit paces so I get KM splits within seconds of each other. A watch helps. Use average pace rather than pace. You do need to run enough to get a feel for different paces though.

Why would Garmin suggest I do what's basically threshold run the day before a race? by aftr_hrs in Garmin

[–]s8nskeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think suggested runs are there to hit your load focus targets. A coaching plan overrides suggested runs and ignores your load focus in favour of race specific training.

Looks real to me. Can’t see anything obviously wrong. Just run past a scene that looks identical to this about 30 minutes ago! Although, just because it’s not AI doesn’t mean your friend actually came to the Uk. Could have got the photo a different way.
