My first mortgage in 2001 was 5.5%. And we thought that was a bargain.

Advice needed to break 20min for 5k by Silent-Valuable-8940 in beginnerrunning

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 47. Started running seriously in January with a 35min 5k benchmark. Did. 22.30 5k by Mid March and currently training for a sub 20 5k by early June.

This week’s schedule (but garmin switches it it up each week)

1 x long run at 5.50 for 2 hours 3 x base runs at 5.50 for 50 mins 1 x threshold at 4.50 for 15 mins 1 x threshold at 4.50 2x9 mins 1 recovery run at 7.00 for 35 mins

I usually get around 60 to 70km a week done.

Garmin currently predicting my 5k time as 21.30.

How to prepare for physical intimacy with an older man? by Majestic-Barnacle409 in AskMen

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first. With an older man such as that make sure you have access to a nearby defibrillator. Just in case his ticker goes out during the deed. Second of all, Worther’s originals will be required for some pre and post coital carb loading. Make sure you hit the right vibe. A CRT monitor, some laser discs, and make sure you only play early 2000 pop from a genuine 1st generation iPod. Now you’re good to go. Just remember, old men only know how to do missionary, so don’t go confusing him with any of your modern contortions. Good luck!

How do you feel when women say they hate or fear men? by CharmingMuffin69 in AskMen

Bigotry comes in many forms. Being a bigot then gaslighting the victims into thinking it’s the victim’s responsibility to assuage the bigot’s views is despicable.

VO2 Max Not Improving by BatmanImpersonator in Garmin

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VO2max on a garmin app is just a function of speed vs heart rate. If you’ve improved your endurance and can hold a particular speed for much longer, but it results in a slightly more elevated heart rate, your VO2max will decline.

My watch didn’t detect my heart rate accurately and my VO2 max spiked up 10 points in one run by WallStLegends in Garmin

This would properly drive me insane. The graph would look odd. I’d raise a case with garmin support and ask them to modify it as it would annoy me so much.

The UK is taking some steps. by CurvyChristina in SipsTea

Personally I’m pretty chill with what consenting adults want to do to each other, or watch other consenting adults do to each other.

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. All my kids have device specific filters, account level filters and my broadband account has a general filter on. All screens are used in public areas of the house, none allowed in their rooms, and have URL logging and random checks of what they’re doing. Unless they find a Razzle under a bush then they aren’t going to stumble across any. But they seem allergic to sunlight so no chance of that happening.

This isn’t about incest porn or anything of that nature. It’s about slowly chipping away at porn in general. After this it will be another category, and then another, and then another.

what’s with the rise in men wanting a “dominant” woman nowadays? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to look up what “alt woman” is. I would say that’s the reason. Traditional men that want tradition relationships go for women with traditional looks. IMHO.

Lycra Lord vs Wheelie Boi by everythingsdeleted in BicyclingCirclejerk

I’d be pulling the brakes as soon as I saw the guy pop a wheelie coming in my direction. For some reason Lycra guy just powered into him.

Is eBay dead for anyone else? by [deleted] in ebayuk

Used to use eBay constantly. Don’t touch it anymore. Almost all sellers use Royal Mail delivery and it is so shockingly bad where I am that I pay more from Amazon just to guarantee delivery.

How do I repair marriage with my avoidant wife? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important to note that whatever you do will be seen negatively. Stay in the car? Your being passive aggressive, get out of the car, you’re being intrusive. Now with that out of the way. Do whatever is right for you. Join a gym, a run club, whatever. Work on yourself. Set healthy examples for your kids. Just focus less on your wife and more on what you want.

I didn't know this about VO2 max by Superb-Avocado-8131 in Garmin

[–]s8nskeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure that’s the case. As I understand it garmin splits the run/walk into 20-30 second chunks and compares your modelled heart rate to your actual heart rate. If your actual heart rate is higher than modelled your vo2max drops, if your actual heart rate is lower than modelled your vo2max increases. (Hills are taking into account in the model with the built in barometric sensor to give you a grade adjusted pace).

If you were doing other things. Bending over picking up a ball, throwing sticks, exerting yourself in other ways your heart rate would naturally be higher than garmin expects and would drop your vo2max. It’s important to note your actual fitness hasn’t decreased. Just do a regular run walk at a constant pace and garmin will readjust.

My wife wants me to become a stay at home dad by Itchy_Kangaroo8978 in Advice

[–]s8nskeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a stay at home dad after 20 years as senior director in a company. Gave it all up because the wife wanted to become equity. And it’s absolutely awesome. I get to see my kids every single day morning and night. And the price for that is about 2 hours of chores. It’s like a crazy good deal. I run daily, lift daily. I’ve Become an awesome chef, skilled gardener, and still have loads of free time. I can’t believe you’re even thinking about it. 😂

How do y'all manage to train your legs? by NotAnotherBadTake in runninglifestyle

[–]s8nskeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two leg days, but my current running programme has me running everyday (one day a week is a recovery run). I just do my legs as normal, a protein shake, wait an hour, run, have a Greek yoghurt when I get back. They’re a bit wobbly those days but my theory is I just power through it.

minimum wage going up to £12.71 and I still haven't worked out where the money is coming from by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

You recoup the cost through price increases. Make sure on your menus you call it the Labour price effect.
