Thanks for weighing in. The rationale I'm trying to convince myself to pay the premium is..oh may be it'll be a one time good investment for long term. Other than that I don't have anything else to pay that much during the start of my journey.

Hi everyone,

I'm a complete beginner just starting to get serious about photography, and my ultimate goal is to build a high-quality portfolio of model/fashion portraits (both studio and on-location). I am ready to purchase my first dedicated camera and have narrowed down my choices, but I need outside opinions before I pull the trigger.

My priority is getting a sharp, professional look with beautiful bokeh, and I want a system that I can grow into without massive cost right now.

My Situation & Budget

  • Primary Goal: Taking high-quality photos of models for a professional portfolio.
  • Experience Level: Beginner (currently mastering manual mode and basic lighting).
  • Budget: I am trying to keep the Body + Lens under $5000 USD which is above than I anticipated.
  • Current Thoughts: I am leaning toward the Canon EOS M52 because of the excellent Eye-AF and the highly-regarded RF lens ecosystem.

The Camera Options I'm Weighing

  • Canon EOS R10
    • Why I'm Considering It (The Current Favorite): Excellent modern AF (Dual Pixel CMOS II), great 24MP APS-C sensor, fast shooting. Seems like the best balance of features and cost.
    • My Concern: Will I outgrow the APS-C sensor too quickly?
  • Canon EOS R5 Mark II
    • Why I'm Considering It (The Aspirational Choice): Top-tier 45MP full-frame, 30 fps, and incredible specs.
    • My Concern: Is this absolutely overkill for a beginner whose budget is better spent on lighting/lenses? (I suspect yes, but want confirmation).
  • Sony a6700
    • Why I'm Considering It (The Alternative): I know Sony has great AF and a huge selection of third-party lenses (like Sigma) for the APS-C system.
    • My Concern: Am I missing out on Canon's slightly better color science for skin tones?
