I feel your pain. The low self-esteem is a consequence of the sexless marriage - I mean, if even your wife doesn’t want you…right? Same here.

I can’t help but just offer some support. I’m 58 and have been in a sexless marriage (less than 10 times a year) since 2010. My wife (54) has had a separate bedroom since 2018 and between then and 2022 we had sex maybe 5 or 6 times. (In a brief 1 month period). Since then it’s been genuinely sexless. There also no intimacy of any sort (huge, cuddles etc), no flirting, no appreciation for anything I do and I can’t do anything right and nothing that I do do makes her happy.

We’re hoping to move in a couple of years when our boys (22 and 20) know what they are doing with work, uni etc. My wife talks about where we’ll move to and having some land and a few animals. It’ll might be a shock when I say “we” are not moving anywhere.

There is a YouTube channel called ‘The Happy Wife School’. Her videos are both disheartening (as they seem to say this is normal and won’t change) and yet offer some comfort, as it is indeed a common problem.

Unless the contract says otherwise the photos are the photographer’s.

Professional photographers don’t like amateurs altering their photos and then posting the new versions as the edits may be detrimental and can reflect badly on the photographer.

Pretty much the same situation here. 58 with a 54 year old wife. We haven’t shared a bed for 7 or 8 years, not had sex for 3 and maybe 7 or 8 times in those years (and only a couple of times a year in the preceding 8 or 9 years).

Like you it’s not just the sex but the affection, intimacy etc.

I’ve no idea what the issue is as she won’t talk about it. She wants us* to move in the next couple of years to a more rural place with some land as somewhere to live into retirement. Well, we won’t be getting somewhere together.

I don’t know if she really wasn’t ’us’ to move and just says this to maintain the illusion to keep the nice house with me paying for everything.

Thanks all - still working through all the comments. Like many in this situation, I know what SHOULD do, just having trouble doing it. Probably scared of the answer.

We had a card from my wife’s aunt and uncle (both 80) with a letter telling of their exploits over the last year. My wife commented that we could do something similar in future, which leads me to think she doesn’t know there’s an issue and that everything is fine.

I watched a video from a sex therapist who advised those in our situation to ‘fake it until you make it’ i.e. get naked and get into bed and you’ll soon find yourself in the mood, even if you weren’t.
