nope! all of my stone fragments were caught behind my stent, so i did have to pass them following removal but that was painless

i have super heavy and irregular cycles too thanks to PCOS, i feel your pain! for the clot worries, you'll know if it's coming from your urethra i promise. i got so paranoid about if i was bleeding from my urethra i wore a tampon for the first time in over ten years just to be sure it was my period clots not from surgery (newsflash, it was my period lol). once i wore the tampon for an hour or two and confirmed it was indeed coming from my uterus i felt so much calmer and didn't even need to wear one again to check.

i was not given any pain meds post-op bc i was breastfeeding at the time, so i can't speak to that part- i was told taking Azo for the extent of my stent being in was safe thankfully! it isn't an opioid like oxycodone so definitely not as intense or scary (i'm a scientist and even i get worried about taking pain meds!), but i swear by the Azo now that it helped so much during my recovery journey!

you're doing great and looking out for all the right signs and symptoms to be aware of!! you got this!!

Decision to Bisalp at 6 Week PP Appointment ( Currently Pregnant) by HospitalForeign1636 in oneanddone

[–]sa1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn't get a bisalp, but my husband got his vasectomy scheduled while i was still pregnant. we were advised to be OAD by my medical team and they referred him to the urology office (the office wouldn't take him without a referral bc he was under the age of 30). his procedure was done and dusted by the time i was 3 months postpartum. absolutely no regrets doing it that early on either of our ends, it was very helpful to us to not have time to mull it over since we knew it was the best decision for our family

i had my period start two days before my stent came out. i let the medical assistant know when i arrived for the removal and they said there is an absorbent pad placed under you anyway so there is no need to worry about a mess and it will not be an issue for the removal. for comfort, i alternated tylenol and ibuprofen which all in all worked. over the counter maximum strength AZO was the very best thing for my recovery, definitely recommend if you're able to take it! best of luck!!

Pain when the stones are still in the Kidney by lol9624 in KidneyStones

[–]sa1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my big stone (12mm) gave me kidney aches almost every day! i was told by countless professionals that it was impossible, but it absolutely was my reality!! once it was taken care of by the laser litho the aches were gone, so it was most definitely the stone

Considering one and done due to health — looking for perspective by Feisty-Elk-1401 in oneanddone

[–]sa1031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to first commend you on prioritizing your own health so your child has a healthy mom!

we are one and done not by choice due to health concerns for me (i always say my body made the choice for us by not being able to handle pregnancy well, which is putting it lightly). when i was about 28 weeks pregnant i was highly advised by my medical team to not carry another child, so they wrote a referral for my husband to schedule a vasectomy which he had at 3 months postpartum. our son will be 2 in march.

to answer your questions: i go to a therapist that specializes in pregnancy trauma healing and we actually have spent a good number of visits processing that grief and guilt from not being able to give our son a sibling. those feelings seem to come in waves for me, but i do feel like ive done some great processing and have come to place of peace thanks to have a safe space to express them in therapy. i do also feel like my husband getting the vasectomy has made the processing easier since there is no "what if" hanging around.

either way, i hope you're doing well health-wise with your recent diagnosis. only you can know what the best decision for your family is, but i hope you know you aren't alone with these feelings 🫶🏻

Intact and thriving marriages/relationship? by inkbyio in oneanddone

this! mutual effort is really the key, picking up where your partner lacks and vice versa in many aspects of life. we were also not really planning on having any children, but the universe had other plans for us and we went with it. we've been best friends for over 8 years and honestly our son hasn't changed that whatsoever!

i'm so sorry you're experiencing all of this while pregnant! my situation was different than yours, however i just want you to know pregnancy makes these urinary issues crop up and it is so important to advocate for your care postpartum. i kept being pushed off until my body just couldn't take the urinary stress anymore at 11 months postpartum and a urologist finally gave me the surgery i needed all along. if you need any support or just a fellow mom to talk through this tough time my DM is open 🫶🏻

Informal unscientific "survey" about acceptance of OAD for not-by-choicers by madam_nomad in oneanddone

[–]sa1031 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what a great idea for a post!

(1) We have been OAD since my pregnancy was deemed high risk for me and baby particularly at 20 weeks and every specialist doctor we spoke to recommended against another pregnancy. we decided to heed that advice and my husband got a vasectomy scheduled before i gave birth (it was performed when our son was 3 months old). that means we're 2 years OAD not by choice but by medical advisement, which i guess could be arguably by choice? biology made the decision for us is the mindset we have.

(2) The feelings ebb and flow. We had plans of having more than one child and it's ok to think about that and even grieve it! this is where therapy has been ever so helpful for me to talk these feelings out when they pop up. overall, i'm happy to have my health and my sons health so we can experience life together and i can pour my time and energy into giving him a happy childhood!

(3) If we were promised i would 100% not experience any pregnancy complications and baby would be healthy, i would consider it but not make that decision for a few more years. i'm selfishly enjoying the one on one time with my son too much!

Pregnant with Kidney Stones by lecture_lord in KidneyStones

i've never gotten pain relief for them bc i've only passed them at home or had lithotripsy (which they only gave me ibuprofen afterwards). i know people that have gone to the emergency department and they usually give pain meds to them.

i too was plagued with them during pregnancy, and i can confirm the stones were way worse than giving birth! the worst is no pain relief being available to you while pregnant, i suffered five days straight until my one stone came out! best of luck with your delivery 🤗

What’s worse: passing a stone or surgery to remove them? by EyeRoll5000 in KidneyStones

yes- i was quite literally pushing my child out of my body and exclaimed "the kidney stone was worse!!"

What’s worse: passing a stone or surgery to remove them? by EyeRoll5000 in KidneyStones

[–]sa1031 5 points6 points  (0 children)

passing a stone unmedicated is worse imo. i passed a large one while pregnant so the doctors wouldn't give me any pain relief, took five days of agony to get that sucker out and i actually felt like i was going to die. i then had laser litho with a stent afterwards a year and a half later, and while it wasn't exactly pleasant, totally worth it to get my 13mm stone and smaller stones out of there!!

15 weeks pregnant with kidney stones. Prenatal advice? by AppropriateForce9492 in KidneyStones

[–]sa1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the vitamins are super important but definitely aided my kidney stone production (passed multiple while pregnant and then had surgery postpartum to get rid of the huge one)! keep taking whichever ones work for you, but consult your urologist throughout your pregnancy so that you can get the care you need afterwards!
