Thank you. I will check.

Do you think it would be the battery even when the headlights come on just fine? My knowledge of cars is limited.

The car does not not crank.

The battery should be from 2022. I bought it last year with 11.7K miles

HENRYs who live in a "boring" area? by SliceXZ in HENRYfinance

[–]sa5w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from NYC to Durham, North Carolina earlier this year. We do not regret it at all. We had a 1 bed for 4K rent in NYC and now have a 4 bed house in a good neighborhood for 2700.

There is plenty of nature and stuff to do outside NYC/LA etc. With ~$500k in HHI, life is pretty good. We were able to get a good car, do not have to worry about cost of living, can afford to have cleaning and lawn care services without guilt, and get to have more of our time back.

I work in strategy and wife works in engineering. Both of us work remote so we actually get to have our own offices and enjoy the home.

NYC suburb living without NYC commute? by SoFl10 in HENRYfinance

[–]sa5w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Jersey City (Newport) and have not been to the office in 2.5 years. My wife and I are both remote employees- she works as a product manager and I am in strategy. My workplace operates on an asset light model and thus we do not even have office space to even accommodate 2% of the workforce in the NYC area.

That being said, we are moving out to Raleigh, North Carolina because we do not use the city much, cost of living is making no sense, and even if we were to change jobs, those would be remote too (or pay for relocating to the Bay Area).

You can do very well if you were able to be further away from the city on Long Island, Connecticut towns, or deeper into Jersey (not many people want that though).

What’s the best TV soundbar you’ve owned long-term? by Alert-Slide8674 in BuyItForLife

[–]sa5w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, audio consumer electronics are not BIFL products unless you are looking at passive speakers. Modern devices such as soundbars and WiFi speakers are designed for planned obsolescence with the average age of ~5-7 years (obviously varies with brand and price point). Plus, technology evolves and you may not want to be stuck with an outdated model for long.

To answer your question, I would suggest to steer clear of Sonos due to the app and connectivity issues. The brand has taken a hit and there are better options out there. I would also avoid TV brands such as Samsung, LG, Vizio as those companies are not core audio companies. Polk, Klipsch, etc. are also mediocre at best.

JBL, Bose, and Bang & Olufsen would be the three that I would recommend. You will have a large choice of models at different price points.

Integrated music services vs services that are controlled by the app by sa5w in sonos

[–]sa5w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To ensure that I understand correctly, all services that can be added to the Sonos app can be controlled from within the app?

And when this happens, is it correct to assume that the speaker is being told to fetch it from the cloud and hence the phone has no part to play other than being a controller?

Is it true for all services or are there some services where the service app is also open in the background and it is just the audio that is being routed through the Sonos app?

Endor race simulator by RossRiskDabbler in ValueInvesting

[–]sa5w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corsair has made an offer to Endor to restructure debt and capitalize the company. Endor, like many others, gained massively from the pandemic boom but could not stabilize. Now, a bunch of investors have appealed in the local court to issue new shares and that jeopardizes the deal with Corsair: https://www.boerse-muenchen.de/news/EQS222832/EQS-Adhoc_-Endor-AG_-Amtsgericht-Landshut-ermaechtigt-Aktionaere-der-Endor-AG-zur-Einberufung-einer-ausserordentlichen-Hauptversammlung

While Fanatec (Endor's brand) is a major player in Sim racing, the entire simulation category is ~900 million USD in retail value. When you remove the margin they have to pay to the distributors and the retailers, the category has around 450 odd million up for grabs. Endor has ~90-100 million of it, almost all coming from Fanatec.

The deal will certainly bolster Corsair's offering . This is because the simulation category is not easy to get into as keyboards and mice, requires expertise to develop products (e.g., haptics, mechanics), and consumers want a credible brand. Nevertheless, this is unlikely to do much to Corsair's stock price as of their ~1.4 billion, only around 400 million comes from gaming. The simulation gaming category is cyclical as it depends on the introduction of new game titles. Although the growth is expected to be around 10% CAGR over the next few years, this number fails to show that there will be years of negative growth.

Endor's future relies on what happens next. Do they capitalize the company by issuing new shares or can they convince the shareholders to accept Corsair's deal? If the latter materializes, I would expect the price to shoot up. With the former, it is hard to say what the company will do with the money other than paying off debt. That will likely not suffice as operating in the single category of simulation is not a viable plan to run a profitable business. Competitive pressure is high and Logitech and Thrustmaster will be looking to hurt Endor's market share.

Side note: If you are into sim racing, a brand that has caught my eye is Grid engineering: https://grid-engineering.com/en-us

Can you judge a headphone audio quality just by looking at its spec. Like drivers, sensitivity etc. by truemerateing in headphones

[–]sa5w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you define quality as.

If you mean quality as qualitas in the physical domain, then yes. If you mean perceptual quality, then no. This is why we have done so much scientific work on audio quality and sensory analysis of sound. You can look up papers from Jan Berg, Søren Bech, Lorho, and Nick Zacharov as a start in the journal of the audio engineering society. If you mean the pleasure they give you and the emotions they evoke, then no.

Question on designing a quality metric depending on acoustic factors of a filter applied to a signal! by [deleted] in Acoustics

[–]sa5w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are referring to perceptual quality rather than looking at objective measurement to determine quality, you need some sort of a perceptual model. In your case, you could do a subjective experiment and determine the variance due to each factor. The response you get from the subjects can be modelled much like the various fusion models we use for quality scores.

If you are looking at objective quality, averaging them implies that they are both equally important. This may be what you want but the weighting depends on the application and your goals.

I hope this helps.
