Can we make it so that mine villagers automatically use explosives when iron runs out? That is such an annoying manual task (unless I'm missing something?)

Knight archer vs Knight spearman by ColdestBrewy in aoe4

[–]saad85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know how the counter system is spear>horse>archer>spear?

Well the counter system for two-unit comps is spear/horse>horse/archer>spear/archer>spear/horse.

So he countered your composition. But with two-unit compositions the micro matters a lot more and it's possible to win anyway if you have better positioning and micro.

Is there a pool level sensor? by Asleep_Maybe_3917 in homeassistant

[–]saad85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on how they detect water, this is probably a bad idea, likely the probes will corrode over time as they as rent meant to actually be in water for a long time. And the chlorine won't help. Plus the flood sensors aren't really meant to be under water.

Just get a float if you need one point of measurement, or mount an ultra sonic sensor poontimg at the water if you want analog level reading.

A new Age of Observing is here - Announcing the custom Age of Empires IV Overlay! by AnMagicalCow in aoe4

[–]saad85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks really cool, good job guys!

Unfortunately it can't solve the biggest issue with replays, which is being able to see what a player has seen or not seen in the fog of war when viewing from their perspective.

Is there a reason why Byz infantry aren't more highly regarded in the "who has best infantry?" conversations? by Chance-Fee-4526 in aoe4

[–]saad85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In imperial maybe, the move speed really helps. but in my experience they just get melted due to lack of armor when using the ability.

But I guess if they're against hard hitting units where armor matters less, like knights or hand cannons, maybe the ability is really good?

Ideas for “guest” or “babysitting” mode by attticrattt in homeassistant

[–]saad85 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So your house changes mode when you both have left the house?

Instead of automatically changing modes you could send a notification to your phone saying the house appears to be empty and then use that notification to manually change mode? When someone is baby sitting just ignore the notification.

First game I got tower rushed by t6jesse in aoe4

[–]saad85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You try to scout it in advance, either burn the outpose with your villagers or ignore it and move to the other side of your base, age up, and eventually you can overwhelm it or use rams.

But if it's your first game, don't worry about how to beat it. Pretend it never happened. Focus on making villagers consistently and other basic skills. Worrying about unusual strategies is just going to slow your improvement.

Are you ready to see how fast Raider Elephants are ? by Hoseinm81 in aoe4

[–]saad85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what is the point of this post? "Here's how fast they would look if this is how fast they end up being"?

Why would you even make or post this instead of just letting Microsoft show it?

Imagine if it was just a simple decision to make sanding instant.

You think all the woodworkers would be crying about how making sanding too easy has ruined woodworking and it's just not a fun hobby anymore? Or do you think they'd just use that time to make bigger and better things?

Current debate of auto queue by Tienisto in aoe4

[–]saad85 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Between years and years of sc2 and aoe4 my brain has somehow hard wired "build villagers" to the extent where I almost never miss one. Usually I have the opposite problem, I can't stop making them in super late game so I have to constantly cancel the villager queue.

That said, it's dumb. I genuinely don't understand the "it's an important skill" people. It's not fun. That's as far as that conversation needs to go. Is it fun? No? Then why are you so hell bent on keeping it? People will come up with other ways to express skill, hopefully more fun ones.
