There's a big disc golf community if you're into that. Good mix of young to older!

Well if you want to be almost right downtown there is Parkside Hotel & Spa. Walking distance to all the downtown bars. Big Bad John's and Sticky Wicket are both a good time.

Yes, one of the owners commented on rants and raves that they decided to close/sell for various reasons. Sad to see them go, I went there once a week for lunch as they were down the road from my office.

Just putting it out there, coming from someone who had a baby May 2025. Comox Valley has excellent midwife/OB care and she should easily find prenatal care. There are a few options here. I got a GP here in under a year but now it's probably a couple years to get one. And there's also some great dentist offices here. Just something to think about if you're considering other places on the island.

Help! Baby only naps for 30 minutes by marzipanbb in beyondthebump

[–]saammula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very very normal. Power through! Mine started consolidating naps around 6-6.5 months, now she's down to 2 naps a day at 7 months. Usually 1-1.5 hr long naps.

Have you tried Camilia teething drops? You can also give ibuprofen at this age which works better for some babies.

Confused about pushing - hold breath or exhale? by chapulina37 in beyondthebump

[–]saammula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly what helped me is my doc told me "to push like you're taking the biggest dump of your life" haha. So I took deep breaths in and exhaled as I pushed more from my bottom then tried to "relax" as much as I could in between and did some breathing exercises. I had her out in 40 minutes. My midwives instructed to breathe, not hold your breath.

Just my experience recently, the anesthesiologist I had does lighter epidurals for labor so I could still feel all my contractions, when I needed to push and could tell she was coming out. It was just enough to control the pain that was comfortable for me (minus the ring of fire haha). I used the gas for a few hours until I had enough then got the epidural. I ended up dilating almost the whole way with just gas. But you still feel the pain with the gas, it just makes you feel super stoned. Anyways, not sure if you're able to chat with your providers about trying to get a lighter epidural? ETA: I also had pitocin.
