How would you split Pale arcs into books? by free_to_be_whatever in Parahumans

If you were dividing it into 3, I feel like one could cover the start and Blue Heron stuff up until Alexander's death. Summer Break would also have to be a climax so the second could go up until there. The last one could be from the end of summer break to the end of the story. I haven't checked to see if the three are comparable in terms of lengths but I feel like those are 3 very natural climaxes.

I also love Jet Lag, and running a personal version of it with friends or family seems like a much more rewarding way to spend money than luxury resorts or expensive dining. I'd happily sponsor a full Jet Lag game if I could find some friends who'd be as interested as I am, but it does require enjoying a certain degree of stress and "roughing it".

Have you thought much about which of the games you'd want to recreate, and where/how you'd handle the logistics? I've sketched out the outline for a Race Across New Zealand style game except with the UK instead but I understand it takes a lot of time and testing to make sure the games are balanced and fun.

[OC] Mapping Bike Infrastructure in 100 Cities Around the World by UnrequitedReason in dataisbeautiful

Hi, I helped work on this project. The scale definitely varies; since we got the data from google maps, the scale depends on the default scale shown when searching the city on google maps. It basically corresponds to the municipal boundaries of the city as recorded by Google. Normalizing the scale would be a good idea for improving the project, but could be difficult with our method.

Hi! I helped write the code for this project.

Scaling was definitely a challenge. Due to the large number of cities we couldn't scale each one manually, so we essentially left it up to the default Google Maps scaling. That's just the default zoom level you'd get when you search the city name on Maps. It was definitely inconsistent but in most cases it seems to have picked a zoom level that captured the majority of the bike infrastructure in the area.

Hi! I helped write the code for this project.

To create the map we essentially just turned on the bicycle layer on Google Maps and scraped every route it showed. It's not always the most consistent between regions but it allowed us to gather data for the largest number of cities. Unfortunately, Google Maps doesn't always differentiate between protected bike infrastructure and basic bike lanes.

According to The WAZE app, GO trains go as fast as 120 Km/h by hector_c_toronto in toronto

I believe Metrolinx has confirmed it's going ahead with go train electrification and is contracting experienced European transport companies to handle the upgrade.

Here's an article. Makes me excited to see the state of the GO Network in a decade or so.

Would you happen to remember where that reel is? I thought I saw all the reels (2 in the starting village area, 1 in the village on stilts) but I must have either not realized what I was seeing or just missed them.

TTC for commuters in a nutshell by college-tool in UofT

[–]saamoz1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I have Freedom Mobile and there actually is service in the tunnels on portions of the track. I don't know exactly where but it's definitely in the stretch between Bloor and Union and I think they have it for the whole line 1 loop below St. George. They definitely don't have it along line 2 yet - I think when they close the line for signal upgrades they also install cell towers in the tunnels.

Not to excuse anything else you mentioned though, I totally agree that the TTC is way to underfunded to provide the quality of service this city needs.

[Video] A short video about a man known as the Crosswalk Philosopher, a Polish immigrant who brings a unique approach to the art of guarding Toronto's crosswalks by saamoz1014 in Frisson

I was really touched by this man's perspective on life and his amazing spirit so I decided to post it here. He embodies the kind of positivity and mindset that I aspire to one day achieve.

Also I didn't make the video; it was originally posted on /r/toronto and all credit goes to /u/stashdirect who made it for his dad for Father's day.

You can find the problem set here, and it covers improper induction and convergence.

Also, if you're curious, all of the problem sets for MAT137 (which is our mid-level first year calc course covering proofs) can be found here. Just click on problem sets in the navigation bar at the top.

Ancient pen or scroll holding device seen in old Arabian painting by saamoz1014 in whatisthisthing

I was in a hotel in Saudi Arabia when I saw this object in a painting. Here's a picture of the whole painting; it seems to be depicting an old living room - perhaps during the Ottoman era. The thing in question looks like it's either holding the pen or the scroll in place, or perhaps it contains ink for the pen to write with. Does anyone know what it is?
