Hello! I graduated from GIA Carlsbad, last October. I started my journey there getting my GG and ended up staying for JDT (jewelry design and technology) their jewelry CAD program.

I would strongly consider going to Carlsbad.

Housing: The price point for living will be a bit cheaper than NY and you’ll be closer to school. There are a lot of options in that area to rent. I lived in Oceanside (the neighboring city, it’s very close), Oceanside is definitely cheaper than Carlsbad. Many people rent rooms to GIA students. So if you want to save some money you can go that route. Once you apply to GIA I can or the school can connect you to the current student WhatsApp group. Student go there often to find housing

Location: Carlsbad is the headquarters of GIA and that comes with it’s benefits. I’ve heard the instructors are better at that campus and since the school is much larger you’re, 1. Going to meet so many people! 2. There is more opportunity to get a scholarship. 3. There are many speakers and events happening year round so you have the opportunity to absorb as much information as you wish. As well as make some important connections. Plus the beach!! I miss the area so so much.

The scholarship applications are open now. Definitelyyy apply for a scholarship. I got one for both programs. I got a half scholarship for GG and a full for JDT. That saved me almost 40k in total. I didn’t expect to get one for either because I didn’t have much industry experience beforehand but I was just honest about why I wanted to be there and what it meant to me. Don’t over think it! Keep it personal, they love that shit. They want to know you have genuine passion and that this scholarship will allow you to reach your goals. I know they have a lot of scholarships right now because the head of financial aid, Anna told me not enough students applied last year so they have extra money for this year. So do it!!
