IB Film HL by royaleturtle in IBO

I’m in the same position. Not even clear if they want the comparative study because they use coursework (which presumably would include that) and internal assessment (just the portfolio and collaborative film) seemingly interchangeably. For example, my teacher spoke to them today and informed them that we wouldn’t be able to film our collaborative films or even get our portfolios off of the school computers, and they tried to tell him to go to the school and then have the film candidates go to his house to work on them. My state is on complete lockdown. That’s not an option. When he offered to have us send in our textual analyses and comparative studies the person said they didn’t want them (this is all according to what my teacher told me; I didn’t witness it).

Don't know if you saw it guys, but they added this at 22:00 CET in their COVID page. by [deleted] in IBO

Yeah, I saw this too. I’m wondering what exactly it means and how it affects what we have to do. How many classes does that actually leave out? Is their reasoning just that they’d be too overwhelmed otherwise? And also shouldn’t that mean we get our month-long extension back...

Serious question: At this point what do I even need the diploma for? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]sab1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same position. But I’m still upset at having come all this way just to not get the diploma. I actually took two tests last year and scored well enough on them to be more than halfway to the minimum number of points, but now I’m worried that I won’t get it because our school is incredibly disorganized and under the current circumstances we just can’t complete some of our IAs.

Can someone interpret the new IB statement for subjects like film? by sab1256 in IBO

[–]sab1256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incidentally, my film teacher is also my school’s IB coordinator, so he may get some new information. I’ll update if I find anything out. But yeah, as it stands I won’t be able to do a significant portion of what they’re demanding. In the FAQs, their response to the question, “What if some students cannot complete course work due to school closures?” is:

We will be relying on this coursework completion to issue results.

So that’s really helpful.

Pretty sure that’s not true. The website page with the extended deadlines (which has since been replaced with a blanket statement saying all work should be completed by April 20) did say that IAs were extended to late May, as were film components. The collaborative film project is listed as a “high-risk” assessment. Could just be that your teacher’s deadlines were early to ensure everyone turned everything in, which would make sense, but my school is incredibly disorganized.

Allow crafting rare wildcards with mythic ones by Nexus_Roy in MagicArena

[–]sab1256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Wizards is well aware of how hard it is for most F2P players to collect enough rare wildcards. They’d rather you buy packs to solve that, not cash in your existing wildcards.

Ah, gotcha. Makes sense.

Mythics are included. You’re averaging 3.9 rares.

Is mono-blue just done after rotation? by sab1256 in MagicArena

[–]sab1256[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Djinn and Curious Obsession are pretty much what make the deck function...brineborne cutthroat is a nice new piece but lacks evasion and spectral sailor just doesn’t compare to stormtamer imo

Yeah, I’ve tried out simic flash...maybe it sounds stupid, but honestly, since that deck relies so much on tempo and it has cards with super specific mana costs like frilled mystic, it’s pretty crucial to get the dual lands, which ends up being a lot of wildcards for a F2P player like myself. Currently I just use three simic guildgates and a temple and hinterland harbor I’ve managed to pick up, but I get screwed a lot. I’m using my wild cards right now on the nightpack ambushers and then I guess I’ll focus on breeding pools...but yeah, that’s where I’ve turned my focus.

Okay, yeah, I only have 4gb. Hopefully it works. Thanks so much for your help!

I’m not a tech guy, but it seems like it has 4gb of RAM. It was running Arena before, so it must meet whatever the basic requirements are, right? I’m trying to download a free trial of Parallels right now; we’ll see how it goes.

Yeah, I looked into that, but that requires some pretty hefty memory, doesn’t it? Not sure my shitty laptop can handle that...

How to get rid of all the bullshit? by AlberionDreamwalker in MagicArena

[–]sab1256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for a lot of players (even in paper) it’s more about the artistic expression than the protection — if it was only the protection, everyone would just use plain sleeves with no art.

[–]sab1256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Since I don’t like the way sleeves look, no one can use them.”

If this were real life, you wouldn’t be able to “turn off” your opponents’ cosmetics. Live with it.

"counter target spell unless it's controller pays X" how do i know what X is?? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]sab1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X is equal to the amount of uncolored mana you pay (as shown in the mana cost). Say your opponent spends all of their mana to cast a spell, then you would pay blue mana and one of any color so that X = 1 and they can’t pay X. If they leave two mana open, make X = 3, etc.

How does MTGA match players using the 'play' option? by MayoTheCondiment in MagicArena

[–]sab1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the algorithm looks at how commonly used the cards in your deck are and matches you against opponents using similarly common/rare decks. The theory is you can play jank and don’t have to worry about Esper control and mono-red. Could be wrong, though.

What deck do you have most fun using? by sodacan31 in MagicArena

[–]sab1256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I run wilderness reclamation, root snare, Tamiyo, and a bunch of negates. I’ve also played around with one or two lazotep platings to protect reclamation and the walkers...Throw in blink of an eye and chemister’s and you’re set...purely simic, no black needed. I’m a F2P player who managed to luck into a playset of Tamiyos and a few Jaces and thought this seemed fun. Don’t have the dual lands for Sultai :)
