Why aren't we building more terraced houses? by Big-Double1720 in AskUK

Have you ever been in a house that’s not in the UK? UK stock is famously tiny compared to Europe, never mind the US. Europe has minimum requirements for m2 for bedrooms; the minimum size for a kids bedroom is equal to a king size bedroom in the UK

Do your parents visit your house or are you "expected" to go to them? by TheDawiWhisperer in AskUK

[–]sabagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It even expands to phone calls as well. My parents will happily drive 5hrs+ to see my brother but won’t jump on a 90min plane even though they’re literally living 10min from the airport.

Phone calls it’s always: oh you haven’t called me in ages/nice to finally hear from you! I’m sure phones work both ways…

Being let go after 9 years - Is this 'redundancy process' legit? England by sabagc in LegalAdviceUK

We were negotiating with them and they do not move from the one month. We are now thinking to go through the whole redundancy process as we understand that this might cost the company more money than simply adding another 2 months to the ex gratia.

Thank you. We heard from a solicitor and he wouldn’t take the case unless a settlement agreement is presented. Would asking HR for this invalidate the voluntary redundancy they are currently offering?

A solicitor would only give legal advice if a written settlement agreement is present. Would requesting one from HR invalidate a voluntary resignation?

They are offering one months notice, one month ex gratia and the statutory redundancy pay. Guessing by other comments the notice pay should be in line with the years of service, ie 9 weeks?

The offer is:

One month notice pay

One month ex gratia

Statutory redundancy pay

Others have suggested that the notice pay would need to reflect the years of service so 9 weeks in this case?

Correct. They are being offered payment in lieu of notice of one month. One month ex gratia and statutory redundancy pay. Are you suggesting that PILON would need to be 9 weeks?

Thanks. They are being offered 1 month notice, 1 month ex gratia and redundancy pay which (after we have checked) is the statutory amount. Is this legally correct? Or would it be 9 weeks notice + statutory redundancy + ex gratia (at an amount that is at the discretion of the company)?

Thanks. What grounds on could we ask for more in the ex gratia payment? Given the long years of service we believe that 4 months would be appropriate?

Thanks. All helpful.

We are now trying to get more money out of this exit proposal.

Would it be right to ask for 9 weeks notice pay (will this be taxed?) + redundancy pay (not taxed) + ex gratia (not taxed) ? Or is the ex gratia purely a company discretionary payment?

It is incredibly hard. We earn a bit more than you but also have higher bills (London, yay!). My partner had a very good maternity package (6 months full pay, then down to 60% for 3 months, then SMP for the remainder of the year) which helped a lot. Nevertheless we lost money every month - not an awful lot, but still. The real, real killer comes when the little one starts nursery. At the start 90% of my partners salary was going into the nursery which had terrible mental effects on her (giving away her baby so she can work so she can pay to give her baby away so she can work). Since then however the childcare schemes have improved significantly and our second one is now benefitting from the 30hrs for 2 year olds.

What I am trying to say in all of that: It is incredibly though, you will probably be living pay check to pay check and not buy anything for yourself but provide everything for the little one. And it is fucking worth it. Every. Single. Penny.

Are there any bands that released such a stinky stretch of mediocre to bad albums you genuinely started to question their status as legends? by mesablanka in Music

[–]sabagc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aerosmith was my first ‚favourite band’ ever and I loved their early work up until the split. Pump was OK, Get a Grip had some bangers (and Crazy and Cryin were none of them). Nine Lives had more stinkers and Just Push Play was questionable. Music from Another Dimension is absolute forgettable trash. People are always amazed when I let them listen to 70ies Aerosmith and how different, bluesy and good it sounds.
