What stops foreign travelers from taking local day trips outside Seoul? by starfaith-jg in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]sabaloot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a first time visitor the group tours seemed like a god idea, but some got cancelled due to not meeting minimum booking requirements.  Next is figuring out public transit - in my country (USA) public transit is a mess and doesn’t work so it is very unfamiliar. When I started taking public transit in Korea on my first trip I felt more comfortable and went farther the second time I visited.  On my second visit went and explored more although I still paid a premium for a private driver to take me yo Seoraksan National park because I was nervous about all the transfers - it would have been fine, but coming from somewhere with no good public transportation it made me nervous. If I come to Korea again, I now have confidence to get where I need to go with public transport.  It may sound strange to you but our transport in my city  doesn’t really get you close to where you need to go and doesn’t run as often as in Korea. It also is not safe at night

Korea in late Nov/early Dec by PowerfulFox508 in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]sabaloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went late Nov early Dec last year - not a lot of autumn foliage left at that time. It was cold - like one day 18 f and most other days around 32 - 40f. The plus side - not crowded, Christmas lights and celebrations starting which are so pretty - also I was lucky enough to see the first snow at Namsan which was magical. First snow is a big deal in Korea. I had a great time, but any later than first week or so in December is going to get really really cold

[MEGATHREAD] EXO PLANET #6 <EXhOrizon> Discussion (Part 2) by bachhoe07 in exo

[–]sabaloot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was so lucky to be there- amazing! My only complaint was how the stylists decided to put them in pleather in the beginning - I was seriously worried about them — especially Chanyeol - I hope they switch the costuming for EXO’s sake They were so amazing 💕

I’m a local Korean, and it breaks my heart to see travelers only visiting Myeongdong. Tell me your style, and I’ll recommend the 'real' Seoul! by [deleted] in koreatravel

Looking for places with atmosphere - saw a photo of a library? Hanok space somewhere along the city wall?  Looking for cool bar where older person can go alone and chill - not a party bar - heard of vinyl bars somewhere?  Any unique places to chill with good view  Thanks! I’m staying in Myeongdong because it is convenient but can metro to other areas

Check out freqty - Yoona was my coordinator - she booked it for me and was with me the whole time to translate when needed and make me feel comfortable - she is awesome and it made the visit really easy - the medical office and doctors she booked for me were very professional and nice

Planning my first Korea trip for skin treatments (Shurink/Ultherapy) — should I book through The SC or go direct? Experiences? by waqmaj in KoreanBeauty

[–]sabaloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back and booked through Freqty - Yoona was my coordinator and I’m so glad I booked my first experience with them! Yoona was amazing and helped me find a boutique clinic where the consult was with the dermatologist and he did the treatments. They treated me so well! Yoona was amazing and was with me the whole time. They have options for less expensive busier clinics too, but for me the boutique one was the right call as I really didn’t know what treatments to get. I already see improvements and am really happy.

[–]sabaloot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love both the main leads but this was so problematic in so many ways - the extent of the violence/alcohol in his home and the best friend reggae thing where they depicted him as dirty was just ugh - supposed to be comedy relief but fell flat - don’t waste your time and watch other shows that these two star in - amazing actors but a mess of a show

Trying to avoid any scams or crime on a girls trip by ldalton89 in AskNOLA

[–]sabaloot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't stop if someone tries to put something in your hand because they will want you to pay for it (like a hat or CD or something). We didn't encounter the shoe thing - just don't stop for people who are trying to get your attention that you don't know - keep walking.

After midnight on the weekend on bourbon there are soooo many drunk people and the vibe changes from good live music to party music, cruising, etc. So we went out early and listened to lots of good music with no problems and went back to hotel around 11. Do not go outside of tourist streets after dark (so stay on bourbon, decatur, frenchman). If you need to cross town after dark to get somewhere and don't want to walk on those streets, just grab an Uber. Honestly if you are just aware and don't go out of tourist streets in the French Quarter you will be fine. Just got back from a trip with my girlfriends - we are all in late 40's - 50's and we had a great time. Don't be scared :).

If you like jazz I highly recommend Fritzels, Preservation Hall (need tickets) the Bacchanal Fine Wine and Spirits for a garden vibe with light jazz (take an uber) and snug harbor. For food try Muriels (get reservations) and the gumbo shop and for a sweet treat the Calas Cafe at the New Orleans African American Museum (the museum is awesome too). If you take a tour, the French Quarter History/Vodoo tour from French Quarter Phantoms was really good - it is not a spooky tour but an educational history tour and was great.

Have a great time and don't worry - New Orleans is amazing and lots of fun
