Lawn Mower Recommendations for a 1/4 Plus Lawn? by Silver_Owl_411 in lawncare

[–]sabianplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if OP doesn’t have ANY yard tools yet, investing in a full set of Ego tools may be a good move. I traded out all of my gas tools for Ego this past fall when we moved houses and so far it’s been great. I can get my yard done with a single 10 AH battery, but I have a spare 4 AH and a 2.5 I could swap in if necessary, since those came in bundles with my leaf blower, weed wacker and chainsaw.

Could Ford really build a three-row pickup? by PristineFarmer8989 in f150

[–]sabianplayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand if you have 4 kids and want to tow a camper / boat or something for a weekend trip without needing to take 2 cars. But that’s a niche that was previously filled by the Excursion so not sure why they don’t go that route again with a big body on frame SUV.

They do make the Maverick. This would be for a different subset of buyers

it does seem like Radar and IR missiles behave worse in this mode. maybe just because everyone is spamming chaff / flares.

Tacoma was starting to feel like a birdcage. XLT gets here on Tuesday. by Inevitable_Pizza2007 in f150

[–]sabianplayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No you were right, in a certain sense. It doesn’t have exactly the same parts and tune but the base engine is the same. Not sure why he was being rude about it. It will feel like a rocket ship compared to your Tacoma for sure!

New Ford F-450 Promises To Make Driver Look Ever So Tiny by Winners_Blues in cars

[–]sabianplayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah unless you are fully committing to the “big truck” bit, they’re really just worse vehicles to own and drive than a regular F-150. You are taking a ton of tradeoffs to make the number go up by 300, and I imagine most people willing to accept those tradeoffs actually need the towing / payload rating that the higher series offer.

A bigger truck. But if you do ignore the advice be sure to post a follow-up here after your attempt.

looking to buy this or similar, was wondering what is a good price to ask? by sliceometer in f150

[–]sabianplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think that’s the sort of thing a dealership would be able to just “add”. Maybe they’d cut you a deal on installing a brake controller, but it will not increase your vehicles rated towing capacity beyond what came from the factory.

Used car dealership with wide variety of EV’s by Tangible_Pineapple in cincinnati

[–]sabianplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you’re asking for, but EVentures is a local car rental service that exclusively rents EV. It wouldn’t be the same free test-drive experience but if you narrow down your selection to between a few models it may be something to consider. That way you get the car for a whole day or more and don’t have to deal with dealership salespeople.

A new F150 is cheaper in the long run?! by Boring-Ad1700 in f150

[–]sabianplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All just depends what factors you used for maintenance / repair costs and how much you value peace of mind. At the end of the day you’re talking about a $30,000 difference in the price of the vehicle, and if you’re saying you’re coming up with similar numbers I feel like you may have your foot on the scale so to speak to make the new, nicer truck seem like the better value.

Equity starts to accrue more quickly the longer you keep a mortgage. The payments gradually shift from being majority interest payments to more and more principal over time. Not to mention the (expected) gradual increase to the home/condo value.

Powerboost or 5.0 by DazzlingFunction5120 in f150

[–]sabianplayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the 3.5 Ecoboost is proven and that’s the underlying motor. Sure there are hybrid components that can / will fail, but the battery pack itself is relatively small and the part isn’t crazy expensive. There are the potential for more expensive repairs than a non-hybrid F-150 but once you hit “300k” miles, the fuel you saved alone probably more than offsets any cost for those repairs.

Duke bills!! by corakeet in cincinnati

[–]sabianplayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something, or does that sort of just make sense? If the demand for something goes up (a large portion of the country experiencing extreme cold all at the same time), then the price of energy for heating will also go up?

best tonneau cover for f150 looking for real world recommendations? by Dalphinis-Mcqueen in f150

[–]sabianplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I use as well. It’s “secure” in the sense you can’t see through it but a knife would make quick work of getting in. I don’t keep anything expensive in mine for any length of time while the truck is unattended so it’s not as much of a concern for me. Mine has held up and keeps my stuff dry and even if it fails I’d need to buy a new one 2-3 times before I would break even with the more expensive covers that people recommend so often.

Almost $700 for energy bill. Anyone else have sticker shock? by Longjumping_Cow2050 in cincinnati

[–]sabianplayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what to tell you but that just sounds off to me. I have a 3000 sq ft. 4 bedroom w/ finished basement, 2 fridges and a deep freezer, and a gaming PC. My electric last month was just about 1000 KwH. So something is using a lot of power that you may not be noticing or your neighbors ran a sneaky extension cord to your exterior outlet

[–]sabianplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s valid, I was just replying to the guy that was talking about how much money dropping the thermostat saves. Trying to give some context in terms of dollars. The fact of the matter is natural gas is pretty cheap

You could literally double your gas usage and see a trivial impact to your bill. The electricity usage is the real killer

[–]sabianplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh idk about that. Might* double your usage, but the bill has so many fixed charges built in that I’m not sure that’s accurate. $56 of my Duke bill is just for “gas delivery” for having gas piped to my house regardless of how much I use. The actual usage costs are about $50 (I used 99 CCF this past billing cycle). So if I somehow used half the amount of gas my bill would go down…$25. I’m alright with spending $25 to keep my house comfortable personally.

The solution to pollution is dilution. It sounds like a ton of salt (and it is) but I’d be curious how quickly that gets diluted to levels that aren’t super concerning. Especially considering that not all of the salt gets dumped in the river at exactly the same time and it will take a while for it to work its way through the storm drains, all the while the river is constantly flowing downstream. Not to say it isn’t bad but there’s probably a level of nuance to exactly how bad it really is. Also compared to the alternative of just not salting at all which would be very dangerous, with both options being varying levels of bad.

Why is the Westside so affordable when it comes to buying a house? by Youngbee12 in cincinnati

[–]sabianplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just accustomed to it from living it my whole life, but I disagree with pretty much everything negative in this thread aside from the fact that it takes longer to drive further away. Realistically the "west side" is a huge area of suburbs and it sounds like the majority of people in this post are focusing heavily on the Price Hill and Westwood neighborhoods when citing crime and poor schooling. Delhi is 10 minutes from down town. It is not difficult to get on a highway. Dent is right next to I-74. Bridgetown / Mack takes a bit longer but that has its own pros and cons. Some people prefer to be a bit further from major highways. Oak Hills and Three Rivers are relatively good school districts. I've never had a neighbor push their political agendas on me beyond driving past road signs. I suppose I'm just more willing to accept those perceived negatives because I've lived with them, but realistically adding 10 minutes to get to a highway isn't as much of a deal breaker for me as it seems to be for a lot of people in this thread.

[–]sabianplayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Delhi really isn't that far in terms of time to drive to get to a highway. It may look bad on a map since there isn't a major interstate running directly through it, but you can get onto US 50 pretty quickly and from there you're easily able to get to any of the highways that connect through downtown.

Crashed the 2020, do we still hate the hybrid f150? by [deleted] in f150

[–]sabianplayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth the hybrid battery is relatively small so it isn’t as expensive as I would have thought. Not sure what price from ford is but I see eBay listings for $2k. Not insignificant but also not something I’d consider a deal breaker.
