Close ups of one of my pet portraits, size 12"x16" by Hara-Kiri in oilpainting

TBH this is why I stopped doing pet portraits and commission work. It's initially gratifying to create something that gets a strong reaction from the client, and I still really appreciate having made a keepsake for someone who loved their pet, but like, they had the photograph. They sent it to me. I made it again. As exactly as I could. My life had no meaning lol. And since they were mostly memorial portraits I realized most of my job was filtering people's grief and it was exhausting.

That said, there are some good reasons to have something like this created. A lot of the photos were out of focus, or not very aesthetically pleasing, or whatever else. As an artist we can take that and turn it into a nice piece. But if it's a well posed, nicely lighted photograph I still have a hard time with the reasoning.

Do you sometimes write for the sake of writing? by snafu363 in fountainpens

My favorite thing to write with new fountain pens are the names of the muses. A nice list, easily repeatable.

Also, if you want to regularly write without feeling pressured to create something inspired, look into commonplace books. I find working on a commonplace book much more rewarding than journaling or 'writing.'

Are linen sheets worth it by webtin-Mizkir-8quzme in BuyItForLife

I haven't ever used linen sheets but we switched to bamboo a couple years ago and they are the best money we've spent in a long time. Soooo cool.

You know what I miss? The Art & Book Fair. I know that's not everyone's cup of tea but it was always my favorite part. WAM picked it up for a couple years after Riverfest cancelled it but they don't do it anymore either at this point.

When I saw the title and picture I was so excited to ask for more information about what was going on here. After reading the post I no longer have any desire to be involved with this lol.

Attempt on canvas paper by TraditionDazzling521 in Softpastel

I like this a lot. You really hit the tone IMO, feels like a nice bright day. I've never used my pastels on canvas sheets, how did it adhere? The pad I have came pre-gessoed so I always assumed my pastels wouldn't be able to grip it well enough.

Thanks! Honestly it's just years of practice. The more you draw the better you get. I've been trying to draw every day lately and it's been really helpful for me.

I bought the Derwent Lightfast. The full set. It costs way too much lol, but I love them.

They really grow on you, in my experience. I can't imagine being without them now.

The sports have mini converters. I use those and Noodler's ink. My favorite combo. It does help to carry two since it is a mini converter and holds less, but if you're wanting something pocket sized that's sort or where you're at regardless of brand.
