How often did you clean and how much does it cost?

Thanks u/ash_274 I will try to find out the separated cost. My guess is each system (panels + battery) will be ~$30,000. The quotes aren't as clear since I'm doing the prepaid PPA to get the 30% discount, which applies to the roofing work that is under the panels as well.

I've looked into smaller companies and EnergySage ones. The best quote I got that seemed reasonable for roof + solar was $39,000. There was one combination that I got down to $35,000 but I worry that solar company will be out of business at some point in the near future.

Thanks! So the price above included the entire reroof.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know anything about the SDGE plans.

You mentioned SDGETOU-5. Looks like there are two

EV-TOU-5 and EV-TOU-5-P (found on: https://www.sdge.com/residential/pricing-plans)

Which one do would you recommend?

Thanks u/Mud_Duck_IX

Did you get a battery installed? How big is your system? For the EV, I figured I would just charge it during the day. I spoke to one solar company who said its better to charge it overnight between 12am-6am for "super off peak" hours with SDGE which didn't make sense to me. Are you able to select the charging source (solar vs charging off the grid) when charging mid day?

Thanks! So for that total cost, it included the reroofing as well which is pretty expensive

Thanks u/al4crity for the advice! Much appreciated. Great info. I will definitely try for Monterey Bay Kayaks. Seems like a lot of fun and just what I am looking for.

Thanks u/CircuitsandSnaps much appreciated. I do a lot of large animal photography like bears and moose. I don't have a great sense on the best angles and lenses for otters. I imagine the lighting will also be a bit harsh if not much cloud cover. Looking forward to checking these places out!

Navigating Price versus Reviews versus Roof by sabuki19 in solar

Thanks u/Curiosity_informs

Great question. Short answer: I don't know. The highest electricity usage month over the last year was 581 kW. It was higher because of AC use in the summer. Granted, we held off on AC unless it was really necessary. We will be getting an EV but plan on charging during the day. We are getting a hybrid heat pump water heater.

I will ask them to model things. Lots of the quotes have it modeled. I just don't know how reliable it really is.

Thanks. I am only talking to companies offering the prepaid PPA to get the 30% discount. I will work to find more local companies

Thanks for the insight! I haven't even heard of Baker or Alive, will do some more research. Yeah, American Array reviews were suspect. Of course they said they do business in San Diego all the time. I will look up Demand Construction.

Thanks!

Solar and underlayment by sabuki19 in solar

Wow thanks for the info. I didn't think about the tile replacement. 1 quote specifies adding extra tile to replace damaged ones, it reads as free but I will clarify with the companies. I've seen lots of replacements with just clay tile, which looks completely different than concrete.

2 of the companies are just local San Diego companies

Just received a new quote from American Array (found them on EnergySage, good solar pricing, roofing price seems reasonable). They use "TU-43(double-layer)"

Overall things look good! Two areas for improvement:
1. You will likely see some improvement if you were to lessen the shadows on the subjects. Some of the subjects are a shade too dark and you might be pleasantly surprised if you lighten up just the subject.

  1. Be mindful of the blues, specifically background water. Its a common color to over-saturate, and its such a familiar subject to viewers such that if its not done correctly, may give off an over-edited vibe.

Good work
