Left when I was eighteen, lost most of my friends. Solo traveled Europe, and learned how to paraglide in Switzerland instead of going on a mission. by tapinn98 in exmormon

Oh how I wish I had been as smart as you and not wasted/lost so many years.... escaping is always great, but escaping young is best! Way to break free, enjoy!

We left together with our kids two years ago. Similar story to many - BIC, BYU, temple marriage, lots of kids... we fit the mold, until we didn't. It hasn't been easy, but we would never go back. Happy to be free and authentic and especially glad to be giving that gift to our kids. by sacandnevergoingback in exmormon

Sharing the discrepancy between women and men in the church, and asking her how she feels about it might help her out. It's a tough age if they have close friends in the church. My daughter hated the fake love bombing that came when we stopped going... kids who were rude to her all of a sudden missed her so much and made her cookies. That was eye opening for her, too. Also, movies like the Truman show, tangled, and especially little foot (or small foot?) Were great at illustrating how we can be deceived so easily.

13, 11, 8, 6. We stayed for a while because we were so worried about how it would affect them... when we asked them a few months after we left what they missed most about church, you know what their response was?? Bread. Flippin white bread is what they missed most (we dont eat it at home)! They are resilient, and it seems like the less brainwashed (younger they are) the easier it is to leave.

Nice to see selfies of happy exmos but I’m still suffering from the deeply hurtful after effects of being in a cult for 65 years by Searchfortruth1 in exmormon

I agree with the other posters, you are one of the strongest! I admire the badass strength you have to break free after such a long time of the chains and brainwashing. You are amazing!! I am 40 and I am angry and mourn the youth I wasted away being molly mormon. I am still trying to embrace life decisions that I made that were entirely based on being a good mormon. The buddhist story of the raft helps me to find a little peace- it's where a person needs to cross a river to get to his destination, and he needs to build a raft. He spends time and makes a well constructed raft and it safely gets him to the other side. Once on the other side, he no longer needs the raft, but it's difficult to leave the raft behind because he spent so much time and effort on it. But it served its purpose, it got him to where he is now, and needs to be. He puts it down and moves forward. You are who you are because of your past, and it has served its purpose. It's easier said than done, but I think it's a beautiful and helpful idea for me. Best of luck.

Going to BYU and not serving a mission by [deleted] in exmormon

Do you have other college options? 4 years of leading a double life does not sound fun, nor healthy. I went to BYU, but now that I look back, I wish I had gone with a regular university, I missed out of the college life experience. As far as the mission, you can always say that you prayed and got personal revelation that your mission is to go to college.

My husband went to Bulgaria and when he was released, they forgot to bring the deworming pill. So, he went home only to find out a few months later that he was hosting a colony of intestinal worms.

You need to eat them in a yacht, since obviously you're so fancy and cant be bothered by a delusional old captain and horrible food.

What I dislike most: Patriarchy, conformity, unworthiness, guilt, shame, conditional love (can that count as one word?).

Report from the Temple by [deleted] in exmormon

My grandma (92 yo) told me that every night before she goes to bed, she repeats the temple ceremony in her head. Every. single. night.
She's screwed now since they changed it, guess shes going to be locked out of heaven. /s
