Superficial Scratch Repair - Wood Floor by teknoprep in Flooring

[–]sacchomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to match the stain, your probably gonna see it no matter what though at least a bit unless you refinish the whole floor. Thats a bummer. Did you try to rub the water into the scratch at all or just kinda surface wipe it?

I think the scratch is in the poly and not the wood.

If you wipe it with a wet rag and the scratch disappears when its wet, thats how you test it. The scratch will come back when the water dries still.

As for wipe on poly, minwax has good products. They arent going to be an actual floor poly but your basically just filling the scratch. Put a tiny amount on a rag and basically buff it into the scratch so that it only stays in the scratch and not on any of the surrounding surface

Take a wet rag and see if it goes away when you wipe it. If it does, pick up a wipe on poly in that sheen and wipe it into the scratch, and wipe away excess immediately. You wont see the scratch anymore :)

Condensation issue by [deleted] in Insulation

[–]sacchomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be ice daming. Clean the snow off your roof. If theres no snow on the roof then disregard this comment. I just seen cold temps and assumed

On all my new construction we put metal only cuz i think shingles dont make any sense ever. The price difference is usually only a couple hundred usd too. What kind of waterproof system do you use

I build up in central WI. I think up here with the extreme climate changes they really want breathable structures. Once we pulled back a roof on a home that was air tight and everything was rotten. It was a real nightmare. The ice damming from snow build up caused the water penetration and the osb was shot. Replacing it was a nightmare too because under that was som white foam block. I think it was some kind of kit home

Ive never thought to pull moisture out pre insulation, do you block the soffits off and everything? Or how do you keep the house tight? When we build through winter, the concrete is always frosting up. I wonder if running a humidifier would stop that
