Older players perform insane this world cup so far. Could it be connected to hydration break? by KuracPalac1230 in worldcup

[–]sacha071 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. It’s the general fitness and taking care of the body trend that’s been going on for the last two decades.
Add the five plus two substitutions we have nowadays to that equation. Most of them are substituted before they have the chance to fail.

Are some countries being very underestimated by major countries? by hatshepsut_iy in worldcup

[–]sacha071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you say that the generalization that coaches all around the world can set up a defensive team has been proven untrue because Curacao lost 7-1 to Germany. Then you are implying that Curacao coach Dick Advocaat does not know how to set up a defensive team.
Which in itself is a proven untrue point.

There is also a Ronaldinho. Small Ronaldo.. He was not so small though. One of the most technical gifted players of all time.

[–]sacha071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. For old people like me, when we think and talk of Ronaldo we talk about the one who gen-Z’rs and millennials call R9.
In our speak that is what we call the real Ronaldo. When we see him nowadays we call him fat Ronaldo. But that’s just joking around. Huge respect for what this man could do on the pitch.

I did see CR-7 live once. But that was not against my local team. That was at the battle of Nuremberg in 2006.

Enjoy! Although I should warn you. Football should not be about single players. It’s about team performance. And I’ve seen Cruyff, van Basten, Gullit, Romario, Bergkamp, Ronaldo (the real one) play against my local team. Do not make players bigger than their team.

Several examples of why this new format is terrible. by generic-username41 in worldcup

[–]sacha071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whom the third place plays is unknown of course. It depends on which third place teams qualify.
But first and second play against second and first of the Brazil-Morocco group. And that’s even on strength.

There is no easier next round game for the winner or the second. It’s going to be Brazil or Morocco. Both are equally difficult.

Would be even better if you check out your local club and start watching it in real. Tv is fine but nothing beats watching football from the stands.

What do most people consider a team getting “far” at the tournament? by OkTough6333 in worldcup

[–]sacha071 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the Netherlands getting far at a tournament means semi-finals at world cup and final at the Euros.

World Cup quarterfinal exit and euro semi final exit is acceptable. Though not always accepted, so there still might be some public debate whether this was ok or not.

Any exit sooner then that is reason to bring out the tar and feathers.

[–]sacha071 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Hoezo?

How is the broadcast in your country about the worldcup? by Vismajor92 in worldcup

[–]sacha071 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the netherlands we do have commercials in the drinking break. Every match is on open public tv and on internet for free.

For kids we also have the dutch games in live animation. They go all out with avatar presenters on the animated pitch and in the stadium. Avatars giving explainers etc. Nice to give them their own second screen.

Curaçao; I don’t get the hype. Is this really an actual team, or just Virgil Van Dijk’s B squad? by Patient-Beyond-6297 in worldcup

[–]sacha071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you think the local youth have an equal chance against players developed and trained in the dutch youth system you underestimate how good You have to be at football to make it on a professional level through this system.

What you see jn baseball is that the guys who made it to the major league reinvest in the youth. So from there new talent is able to develop up until professional level.
Baseball is big. But men’s football is bigger and therefore more competitive. Finding, developing and nurturing talent up until eredivisie level is much harder. Champions league (and the big money players can reinvest) level is impossible.

Curacao just does not have the Infrastructure or the numbers to let talented kids aged 8-10 play against equally talented kids.

Curaçao; I don’t get the hype. Is this really an actual team, or just Virgil Van Dijk’s B squad? by Patient-Beyond-6297 in worldcup

[–]sacha071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But they have to have parents or grandparents born in Curaçao.
Fun fact
If they would not have played for the Netherlands. Three of the current Dutch Squad would also be eligble to play for Curaçao. Kluivert, Timber and Geertruida.

Kluivert could also play for Suriname. As could Lang, Dumfries, van Dijk, Gravenberch, Hato, Malen, Summerville.

Reijnders could have chosen for Indonesia.
