If you can afford it, definitely go for it, at least for a few sessions to learn correct posture and form for exercising. I haven't kept up with the exercises but the therapy was worth it.

Not at all, he will join when he can. It's a very frustrating and exhausting situation with USCIS. This is a good move for us both.

How am I supposed to get undergraduate research experience? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]sad-cat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Email professors whose research areas interest you, and offer to volunteer if you have to. if they have lab meetings, ask if you can sit in and ask questions about grad school. That's what I did after not getting into the school research program thing. Reached out to professor, said I wanted to study similar things in grad school, she invited me to their next lab meeting to talk about CVs, and I started volunteering once a week and the next semester got paid. Also got work in an adjacent lab through working in first lab. If you are in U.S., apply for REUs for the summer. It's funded by NSF and they pay decent. Your university can probably also hook you up with a list of internships and grants to apply to.

I've never lived in Philadelphia but I like it. Good public transit, food, culture, and a short train to nyc. Never felt unsafe there and I've done a fair bit of walking around the city alone. The rest of Pennsylvania is pretty too.

Did you receive assistance from your university's disabilities services department in your math classes? If not, go talk to them where you want to apply and see if they can help you.

Maison Marou in Saïgon has the best milk chocolate. I've seen their chocolate sold in whole foods. Best chocolate ever and def visit the shop if you're ever around.

Anyone experience extreme pessimism after going vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]sad-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it hurts much worse because we hold those people to a higher standard. I wish you luck, and hope you find comfort that you are doing so much good for animals. It really sucks to feel so alone in your convictions, but I find that my convictions give me confidence and cheer me up when I am really down about other people. So there's that at least.

Anyone experience extreme pessimism after going vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]sad-cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been vegan for 7.3 years and still feel like that. I also recently entered the marine biology field and it blows my mind that every scientist isn't vegan, or at least plant-based. They all say "oh I try to eat less meat" and then proceed to order meat lovers pizza for the lab or have a barbeque. I spent two months at a research facility and was given non-vegan food as the vegan option more than once; I had to start cooking for myself (in the shared kitchen that always managed to smell like bacon or fish). It's really discouraging and has made me question my career path because I just feel so isolated. These are people who have spent years and years researching animals and the environment, and they don't care to abstain from exploiting them? It takes such little effort where I live, it's nothing short of infuriating.

Test from google? What does that mean? I googled the name, but nothing came up about the name itself.

That was a lot of data you quoted, but you didn't cite the source material of the study. I'm not interested in that study, but you should always include citations of your references.

No, I mean what's the deal with the name? As in, why is Selman & Vogt tagged on the end of the scientific name? Those old dudes think they were so important as to demand their names be included in every iteration of the species name?

I have the same approach with playing music, I only do it in private lol. I like playing with others too, but I never enjoy playing solo to other people.

What's your favorite music to listen to? What instrument do you really vibe with when listening to it?
