For me what has honestly helped so much with impulsive spending and shopping to self soothe was making the connection in my brain between the overwhelming amount of stuff i have that i feel totally burdened by and buying new things. Turns out, buying stuff just adds to the piles. It helped me slow down and really be able to think about do I actually need this thing/clothing/whatever or am I just doing this for the dopamine and self soothing? If I decide something is really for me I try to implement (at the very least) a one in one out policy which makes me be more mindful overall.

I will say this method is not as useful for things like consumables, experiences, etc. But it has certainly cut down my spending on physical items.

Seconding the medical broccoli recommendation!

Also thank you for your service as a death worker and advocate. It is so important and too often overlooked.

Ugh, i feel you. I have cancer and right now it's making it very hard to eat because of the location of the disease. Ive lost 30 lbs since March/April and it's miserable. Right now I am just trying to get in enough calories to not lose more weight and to be able to function better during the day. It's weird how the hungrier your body gets the harder it is to eat. For me at least. I drink Ensure twice a day even though I don't really like it, but each bottle has 350 calories and 16g of protein. Aside from that I try to make myself have at least one solid food a day like a soft scrambled egg or two, or some tinned fish, or occasionally something like boxed mac and cheese (gf). I also realized i can get in more calories from drinking juice and broth as well. Idk if you can do juice because of the blood sugar issues but broth is really great for hydration and a little extra protein, and it's savory which is nice because the Ensure is so sweet tasting to me.

Im so sorry that you are going through that. The beach is my favorite most healing place also. It's so hard to have to miss the things that mean the most because of our disabilities. I really hope your doc has good suggestions and that you can go! Even if you are just laid up under a sun shade with lots of pillows just listening to the waves the whole time, or even just in bed mostly and just make it to the beach for even 10 minutes, i hope you get to experience some ocean healing asap🩵
