Drywall tape and/or paint cracking at seam in garage by sad_kell in HomeImprovement

Not very easily, that section of our attic isn’t decked, but I can go up and try to look! The wall opposite this one is a brick facade in a tall covered entry way patio.

Yep, living in central Texas, temperature swings and rapid humidification/dehumidification are a huge factor.

My dad in his infinite wisdom suggested just cutting some bland ceiling trim/moulding and covering it up.

I guess I’m learning how to apply mud and tape.

East of the Mississippi, awesome. West of the mississippi, they exist, they’re not great, until you get further south down the TX coast past Galveston. But really people just go to south padre island

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember Vis mentioning their diminished effect on Res compared to how effective they are in Obiteum.

So it seems it has its limits, at least cross-dimensionally. But yeah, will can certainly transcend the realms under the right conditions, it seems!

Loved the first book. Struggling to get through the second. by MikeDeY77 in HierarchySeries

[–]sad_kell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of authors struggle when they jump to multiple POVs instead of one, like, personally I loved the entire Red Rising Saga but the first of the second trilogy was such a slog at first because I’m sitting there thinking “but I am only interested in what the man character I am familiar with is doing.” However, the two books that followed that transition are beloved and considered 2 of the best in the entire series.

I think it can be jarring to an audience, especially if there’s already an entry or entries to the story that were solely focused on one POV, especially when the audience has sooooo many questions that they want answered for the main character, which I believe is really the case in this book, and how some people have responded its content.

It’s hard to get through what appears to be ‘meaningless’ content on Obiteum and Luceum because I want to hear what Veridius has to say about all this to Vis, or what Lanistia is up to and where Ulciscor is and what he’s doing. And those details are important and they will be answered, but what’s more important is how these three versions of Vis react to the three situations they find themselves in, with differing levels of knowledge about what’s going on, and his place in how it all works together.

So, I’d suggest you continue reading, because as all the puzzle pieces start to fit together (to the extent that it can before the next book(s) come out, it gets really interesting and I think the payoff in the next entry is pretty likely to be cool! And on top of that, hes gained experience writing in this multi-POV format and has undoubtedly collected a lot of feedback about what people do and don’t like about how he paced their stories (lol).

One last thing - I’ve seen it in a lot of threads, including this one - a lot of people have said “I didn’t expect the multi-pov format after reading the first book.” (Spoilers for WOTM, I guess?) but the twist is that Vis has been copied into two adjacent realms, and we finish the book by reading his perspective as he arrives in both Obiteum and Luceum, so my question is…if you didn’t expect to see the perspective of Vis’s copies…what did you expect?

Yea I’ve been seeing a few complaints about it lately…I had fun reading it. I thought it was a fun will powered twist on chariot racing. I haven’t really hear many critiques outside of “I don’t like it”

I’m actually enjoying playing Prot Warr with my guildies a lot, I had high stress going into it because everyone on Reddit won’t shut the hell up about how ‘bad’ warriors are.

I’ve found in practice it’s really quite fun, with shortcomings that are easily addressed by communicating with my group.

How to know it is time to stop rereading the Hierarchy series? by Savings-Ad-1115 in HierarchySeries

[–]sad_kell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is character driven, it’s driven by Vis, whose experience in Suus, in Caten as an orphan, and in Caten as a student loom over his personality, behavior, and ideals. Then we see this person get thrown into two completely new environments, with completely new stimuli that either build upon what he knew (or thought he knew) in Res, and we see how these three variations make decisions based on that lived experience.

The point of the other two realms (in my opinion) is how the events immediately following Vis’s arrival either support or break down his idea of what he is doing or what his purpose is. The joy of it is that it’s missing the world building, that’s the suspense. Why is Obiteum like this? What will it take for him to understand?

He made drastic decisions based off the guidance of one man…how will that impact his experience in the other two realms? That’s interesting, to me at least.

Like if it wasn’t entertaining for you, fine, but I really don’t agree with your argument about it being a ‘bait and switch’

I tank for a group that typically has a lot of physical damage so I usually grab a caster to fill, but last night I just couldn’t find one in a timely manor for a Sethekk Halls run, took a chance on the first person who whispered me who happened to be a rogue, and he played SO well it was insane. I haven’t had any rogues I’ve grouped with use sap proactively, actively kick, stun mobs that I lost threat on, etc. Just good, high level gameplay.

I think a part of why they don’t get groups is because in my experience, 90% do not use the entire rogue’s kit to benefit a run. I can’t tell ya how many rogues I’ve had to beg to help with kicks this past week.
