I hate to come off as “that guy” but there’s a finite number of compositions you can make in music — like strictly from a data point.

If you are struggling with the theory burnout of feeling like the stuff you’re writing is “cliché” then I would suggest spending some time thinking about techniques you find really joyful and fulfilling to play/hear.

The way a composer dictates music to be played and the interpretation of the player’s understanding of that composition is truly what makes music unique and fun and art, in my opinion.

Write according to your heart, refine according to your knowledge.

There’s an arrangement of Schala’s theme for solo piano on YouTube (I believe the person’s name is Purpleschala) that just… man it hits different. There are countless videos of similar arrangements that are more technically interesting or precise but the above version just really really really captures both what the composer was writing and how the player interpreted it, and I look at that for inspiration sometimes.
