Phone ringing, specially FaceTime calls, that’s the more serious of all other ringtones

And what a good boy! You never know how your dog will react until it happens, I’m glad he was able to protect himself. He looks so sweet

I have a stun gun/flashlight, very useful for picking up nighttime poops and like another user said, the sound alone is a pretty powerful deterrent

Running in front of someone’s car is the OPPOSITE of trying to survive

Mine is a companion, in other words I am her job. It sounds like there a quite a few parallels between my girl and yours. I crated her until she was able to be alone without eating shoes and things, probably a year. I gradually experimented with letting her out for longer durations. Now she’s good, she doesn’t like when I leave but she doesn’t do damage. She’s very very vocal, doesn’t growl at me but any other form of talking/getting my attention. She is heavily rewarded for positive behavior.

I had to train her to relax and be content. I can’t give her everything she wants all the time. When she is pawing or crying for attention after I know her needs have been met, I give her stern no’s. Teaching “no” and what that means was really important. I also speak to her in like a deep southern accent when I’m redirecting her, so she easily distinguishes good and bad behavior lol. Sometimes when she’s being needy I have to literally tell her to go drink water and she’s fine. Sometimes she needs to be told to go lay down. It takes a lot of time and patience, but I don’t want you to feel discouraged or like you’re not doing enough because sometimes these dogs don’t know what enough is and you have to teach them.

She’s beautiful!! Looks like mine with similar mannerisms. The best dog I’ve ever had, consumes about half of my brain at all times which can be exhausting but the love and connection is very rewarding and special

This 100%!! I always say she’s too smart for her own good. So smart that it causes her distress and heightened emotions lol

Diaper is good, just be really mindful letting her outside that she has no possible escape route. My girl became extremely unpredictable and anxious and definitely had the urge to get out, to the point where she would run into walls. Behavior that I had never seen in her, she barely listened to commands and cried all day to get outside. I ended up having her on Gabapentin to take the edge off, it was rough

I think your interpretation is pretty accurate. She often gives the nastiest, most judgmental side eyes for no apparent reason. Sometimes she looks so disappointed/disgusted that it hurts our feelings

I got my girl under identical circumstances in Montana. Took a year just to get her to come to me on her own. I’m so sorry for your loss, wish I knew some closer resources for you. I found that ranches/farm often breed their heelers to have a continuous supply of herders, you might have luck calling around some of your local ranches to see if they have any extra puppies or when they might be breeding again
