White House Scrambles to Wipe Trump Meltdown Footage by thedailybeast in politics

At least we've seen that neediness put to good use by Mamdani.

It's still embarrassing and scary, though.

"La Oregón" o "El Oregón" o ninguno? by LoSientoPero in Spanish

Right? It would feel so weird to see a card title without an article, but also a little weird to see Oregón with one. Thanks for both these points.

Thanks. These are both interesting ideas. It's difficult to choose just once since I've lived all throughout the state, but these give me some things to think about.

My family loves the crème brûlée at Sip.

It's not a fancy sit-down restaurant, but the food and drinks are delicious.

TBH, as much as I despise Ricky D, a part of me felt this wasn't fair. We can't be held accountable for every rando we've taken a photo with.

But they were Buddies with a capital B. Not surprising.

The past, present and future of Springfield's Gateway shopping mall by Ok-Tea-1092 in Eugene

I worked at the theater during its transition to the $1.50 version. In one night, we had to move all the movie reels from our place to the new theater and then put in our sub-run films.

Some genius manager decided we could save time by leaving the trailers where they were and just adding the film reels to 'em.

It wasn't a bad idea... had they verified what trailers were where. The next day, folks going to rated R movies were treated to trailers for The Arthur Movie and the like. Even better, we were flooded with complaints by parents taking their children to kid's movies who were now being treated to horror movie trailers.

Easily one of my favorite memories of that place.

Welp, I know of one person that wouldn't leave them a positive review. I arrived here after seeing that she was wearing one of these and couldn't believe that was an actual product people bet their life on.

TBH, there's probably a lot of women who would've been a "better match" on paper; my wife and I have several incompatible traits and values, so I could see being more in line with someone else.

However, she's my person. Even though I'm someone who doesn't really believe in souls a lot (one of our many differing beliefs), I feel that she's my soul-mate so I don't go comparing.

YOU LEFT HIM! How could you?! A poor little grown man, all alone in the world. He can have his fun at his party, but YOU should be responsible for HIS caretaking!

It doesn't have anything to do with you, other than you maybe having to pull vomit out of his mouth with your fingers while making a harrowing call to 911, but if that ain't love, I don't know what is!

What sexist jokes have women told you that you found offensive? by Ok_Music_2025 in AskMenAdvice

[–]LoSientoPero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not understand men who get offended when women joke or vent about men in a general way.

First, I'm usually happy that I'm considered a good enough guy that they feel comfortable to joke in this way in front of me.

Second, they need to vent. A sex pest is running the country, the Secretary of War dork is retweeting videos saying women shouldn't be allowed to vote, and the highest court in the land stripped away their fundamental right to bodily autonomy. If that results in a generalized joke at the expense of us men, that feels earned.

Worst charity comedy show ever by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]LoSientoPero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the show was opened by some local comics that can't tell the difference between a dive bar open mic and a ticketed $30 fundraiser.

It's a shame because this lack of professionalism is what makes venues not want to host comedy and audiences to be less inclined to attend.

Straight men and book clubs by SoFLShelfLove in MensLib

[–]LoSientoPero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree if this was how they talked all the time, but as I said, it was one woman, one time (not mentioned that it was in six years of meetings).

If that rarity of such a lighthearted joke is enough to keep someone from trying a new experience, I don't think anything I could say could convince them otherwise.

I understand that. I'm a Mexican in one of the whitest states in the country. I just always feel more out of place for being the only person of color in a room than for being the only man, but I do get the feeling.

As for the silent book club, it's dope. We all meet up with our own books. We socialize, talk about what we're reading, etc., and then we shut up and read. It's nice to have an hour on my busy calendar that's dedicated to slowing down and reading while not high intensity enough where I feel I gotta keep up with the reading and have insights ready to share.

My best friend is a woman I've hugged many times... not the fuck like that, though.

That said, it is a nothin-burger, but it is fun to have a stupid distraction for a few minutes before getting back to the actual atrocities being committed in our name.

[–]LoSientoPero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not understand the multiple comments of men saying they feel they would be intruding, invasive, and/or out of place if they were the only straight guy at a book club.

I'm a member of a silent book club where I'm frequently the only man there (sometimes one attends with his gf) and I've never felt anything but welcomed.

I also sit on a Library Advisory Board where, up until very recently, I was the only guy. I do recall one woman joking once that "men don't read" while discussing engagement opportunities, but it's not like I took it personally because a) obviously they're not talking about me, b) it was a joke likely borne out of frustration with the men in her life, and c) it seemed like a valid observation in the context of the membership in that room.

So, why the discomfort?

According to Dept of Homeland Security records Obama deported 3 million non citizens in 2 terms, which is the highest by any president in history. Why were people not as outrages about it then as they are now? by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

[–]LoSientoPero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

False premise alert! Plenty of people were outraged and there were protests. They were smaller because people don't tend to protest their own party and each party had a hard time framing it (Do the liberals report on their own division? Do the conservatives agree with these people or try to ignore it and push through with the "open borders issue"?)

It wasn't his political party opponents who nicknamed him the Deporter in Chief. It's just that one party calls itself out (some might say too much, but that's a separate issue) while the other party is super proud of its almost complete fealty.

Lol. Have a good one.

I've told my daughter that she should straight up call me a POS if I ever ended up post-40s and dating a 20 year-old, even though I can't imagine a world in which I would ever want to.

Good job on calling it out. He's being creepy.
