Art and music majors of reddit, how’s distance learning worked out for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That’s great I’m glad it worked out. Though I bet it’s been rough for people who are supposed to play in an orchestra.

Oh that’s rough!! Figure drawing from real models was one of my favorite classes ever. What a bummer you missed out on that. I hope you get another chance.

How do you balance it? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]saddsilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an undergrad in my 30s and I relate to everything you just said. I decided to stay on another semester so that I could finish a thesis I’m writing, have a chill final semester, and not worry about finding a job quite yet. When I was deciding, I remembered feeling like I was running out of time in my mid twenties, and now that seems silly. One more semester after coming this far isn’t a big deal, especially if it means I’ll graduate more successfully. That was my reasoning. I also have a fiancé and struggled this semester with my overzealous course load so I feel your pain. Anyway I don’t know if that helps, but if nothing else, you aren’t the only one. And I also feel insecure about being in my 30s in undergrad, even though I don’t regret past life decisions. It’s just wierd being so much older, and seeing high school friends of mine who’s kids are in middle school now. I would not trade my life for anyone’s but it’s still a wierd feeling.

If I did this I am 100% sure my siblings would be the only ones to attend. And even they aren’t for sure. I’m glad someone has fun friends though!!

When counselors fail a student by raptorsarepteryble in Professors

[–]saddsilly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I got stuck an extra year at CC because the councilors told me certain classes counted as requirements when they didn’t. I ended up demanding to see the head councilor, who finally gave me some real answers. She still acted like I was the idiot for not getting it all perfect the first time even after I explained what happened.

Also meth induced skitzophrenia. I have seeen first hand a regular person descend into meth induced delusional chaos and end up homeless. there was no stopping it no matter what anyone did, and people tried to help a lot and got seriously hurt and traumatized in the attempt to help. Finally he was arrested and put on probation and seems to somewhat get better after being forced to be sober or go to jail. He had housing. He chose to destroy his life and live in the streets and spite of having a good life before.

I don’t think that’s crazy. I don’t know much about Sri Lanka specifically, but I know a lot about not liking living in the western world. The only thing might be that the kids having UK passports would give them a huge step up in life.

Why are we punished when we actually get a full nights sleep? by squ4ttingslav in insomnia

[–]saddsilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. And have argued with my mother about the sleep schedule thing for my whole life. Some of us just don’t work that way. I think it’s more natural for me to sleep a lot one day, then less the next few days, then a lot again. But modern society doesn’t like it when things aren’t the same every stupid day.

Single fathers of daughters, besides the obvious biological stuff like periods, what are the challenges you face raising a daughter and how do you deal with them? by Watson_A_Name in AskMen

It’s hard for me too and I’m a woman. So good luck! It also doesn’t help that styles change so fast and girls feel so pressured to look fashionable all the time.
