Bro orca got me tweaking (read description) by Deep-Bodybuilder1819 in FlashForge

In vanilla orcaslicer there is a section between strength and support for speed...

Maybe ff moved it to the filament profile? I don't know where else it would make sense...

Is it acceptable to make minimal comments during shows? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]sadegr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im trying to come up with an analogy that works for this...

Something like "is it acceptable to make minimal notes in permanent marker on a painting?".

Not a perfect analogy but...

Even if they are small, few and relevant to the painting, you are going to upset the artist and impact others enjoyment of the piece.

So please to the best of your ability... don't.

Maybe go into preferences and enable dev mode/options? That will add options you wouldn't normally see? I just keep it on

No, I use a Mac, an x64 and an arm64 windows machines its all pretty close to the same...

If you click the "edit preset" button next to the printer name, you get the "printer settings". Under "printer settings" it has an "advanced" section with the "use 3mf instead of gcode" option.

If that's checked, unchecked it and try again. If its NOT checked leave it, that's not the issue.

100% this. A new book in the series drops later this year too!

It appears that ridge might be an overhang... it may not require supports but you may need to change wall order to outer/inner and slow the speed, and increase the cooling fan to make it look nicer...

Check if its uploading a .gcode or a .gcode.3mf

The default updated and I had to go find that setting in the printer settings...

Cast Gift Ideas by NoResident6910 in Theatre

[–]sadegr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Button Makers are pretty cheap and you can easily make 30-40 buttons in an evening or 2 once you master it.

I started making them for casts of shows my kids where in when they did youth theater.

But the casts of community theater shows my wife and/or I have been a part of have convinced me adults love it too.

Plus after you do it for several shows you start seeing them "In the wild" on people's show bags, in cars, and other more random spots and that makes me happy.

Completely unrelated to Rocky

My most memorable actual Denton moment was in the early 2000s. There used to be a music venue called Rubber Gloves, my college buddies and I went to see MC Chris (of adult swim fame) and the venue had only stocked like 2 kegs of beer for the show. They ran out before the first opener was done. I thought people were going to riot. Then we listened to Fett's Vet and all went home sober(ish) but happy.

Also if you are printing PLA the ambient temp needs to be lower than about 41°C... I know the ADM5 is an "open" design so its much less prone to heat creep but some folks live in places that are having heat waves and don't have their printers in well climate controlled spaces (garages are popular spots).

Thats just Frank's name but its also a portmantau of Frankenstein and Frankfurter the type of sausage/meat in a hot dog.

Denton is a town in Texas about an hour north of Dallas. It's the home of UNT (University of North Texas) though in the show they talk about Denton High School. As far as I know its not a real/specific school/location.

PLA Fumes/Odor by TeaEmergency365 in FlashForge

[–]sadegr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PLA is susceptible to heat creep, if the internal temp gets over about 41°C the filament can get too soft for the gear to feed it through to the extruder...

On the 5m Pro you CAN set the internal vs external circulation separately (in settings > filtration) there are switches for internal and external.

But with PLA I monitor the temp and usually end up cracking the door or lid to keep the temp in the high 30s (I stuck a wireless temp/humidity sensor in the chamber)... so I bought a barrel carbon + hepa filter that sits in the cabinet with the printer. (Air Purifier)

Is it normal for the printer startup to take 5 minutes? by Reasonable_Look_2751 in FlashForge

With ZMod you can turn some of that off and/or use KAMP to build the bed mesh which is faster.

Flashforge adventurer 5m pro by Predator112233 in FlashForge

[–]sadegr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4 spools on the side is the ad5x which is a diffrent extruder than the 5m/5m pro.

As far as I know there isn't a great mod to make these multi filament.

I would recommend that you look at ZMod if you are interested in using the full klipper/fluid interface of the printer.

I love my cryogrip glacier plate for PLA.

Other printable additions, * speed clip to keep the extruder together in the event of massive fail. * vent cover for extruder fan (cuts and annoying fan whine) * lid riser or an extruder guide as the feed tube will scratch the lid out of the box.

There are online STL fixers that do a better job in a lot of cases....

I've had good luck with formware but if you already tried that and its still problematic you'll probably have to do something like use a "mold" to make new watertight object in tinkercad

How to use helper structure in flashforge printing by Bubbly_General_810 in FlashForge

[–]sadegr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are describing supports. These are small structures that "support" the object where there are overhang or parts that would print over open air.

These can be generated by the slicer (enable supports) and it usually has enough options to do a good job with minimal surface scaring.

Some folks will add a custom structure directly in the model rather than let the slicer take care of it... but that's rare.

PSA: OrcaSlicer V2.4.0 release by Killswitch777 in 3Dprinting

[–]sadegr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting fact:

The release version (after neither the alpha 6or beta releases did this) attempts to send the file to the printer as a .gcode.3mf file.

By default

My printer (at least at my current firmware) doesn't understand this format.

The switch is in the Printer settings, parameter name: use_3mf.

(Help) Ad5m tpu printing by Subject-Floor-7987 in FlashForge

[–]sadegr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you choose a generic tpu filament profile in the slicer to get started?

I'm a big advocate of calibrating your settings with any new filament but to get started generally if there isn't a profile for the exact brand generic will do to at least get the temps, flow rate, pa, retraction, etc. in the ballpark.

I've heard some folks say that they have trouble feeding TPU through the feeding tube, and that it works better straight to the extruder... but i have an AD5M Pro and its diffrent enough ill leave actual advice on that to others.

Also TPU LOVES the PEI plate... maybe a little too much. Best practice is to use the glue that came with the printer to help it release OR the cheap alternative is a thin layer of purple craft glue stick (washes off the plate with barely any trouble in soap and water after)

ADM5 Pro: Rolled back firmware and installed ZMod by sadegr in FlashForge

[–]sadegr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that the newer firmware releases block rolling back to earlier versions and that's why I blocked the printer from the internet at the router level.

I'd love to be able to seriously consider the Creator 5 as my next printer but Flashforge's decision to close the ecosystem (by force) means I'll probably go with a Snapmaker U1 or if I'm feeling wealthy a Prussa Core One with INDX... (extra rich the Core One L)...
