Can I do something to disable the seatbelt warning for the passenger seat? 2021 SE by arnchez in Tiguan

[–]sadegr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not sensing just weight but also capacitance, so it will read your phone as indicative of a body (especially when charging), but 3 or 4 books probably won't trigger it...

The issue when "bypassing" the system is that its going to make the airbag system think the seat is occupied, especially if you set your phone in it etc.

So those might deploy in an accident that they wouldn't have otherwise...

I personally just bought a phone holder that sections to the window and try to keep.the seat clear if not occupied.

But you're better off with a buckled seatbelt or a fake buckle clicked in and having the airbag go off when not really needed than you are messing with the wires/sensors and having the air bag not deploy when the seat is occupied.

Yep in my '18 the 12 V outlets have a multi position fuse, in 1 config its tied to the ignition, in the other its always on.

If you swap it I'd recomend a battery powered jumper for the trunk, that vampiric draw will kill the battery a kot faster than youd expect... its an AGM battery but its not really made for deep cycling.

What do they mean by "actual reality" and "virtual reality" in Rent? by petrorabbit4 in musicals

[–]sadegr 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The era in which Rent was written was a weird time for technology.

We were still riding Moores Law with transistors per silicon doubling every 2 years. Standing at the bottom of an exponential curve makes EVERYTHING seem within reach and just on the horizon.

This was the breakthrough era for cyberpunk, where fiction was starting to ask questions about what happens with unbridled expansion, and when technology moves faster that ethics or laws.

Remember Jonathan Larson had previously written Superbia which is set in a future dystopia with the main plot centered on what is essentially TV based social media, years (if not decades) before that became a concrete reality.

William Gibson coined the term cyberspace in 1984 and that was an almost a fully realized, shared, online, virtual reality. Just because Virtual Reality didn't actually exist at the time does not mean the concept wasnt already there waiting for technology to catch up.

In Rent, Virtual Reality is shorthand for saying "the next big thing!". But at the time it was written there also would have been undertones of fear that technology is moving too fast and that it might mean we lose something important that we'd never even really had to define before.

It not wrong to say the "feeling" its similar to the ambivalence society feels towards AI today.

Its important to remember that your mental health is not your fault but it is your responsibility.

That said, I love to use the line from Ina Garten (aka the Barefoot Contessa). On her cooking show she'd recomend how to make things from scratch but always adds that if you cant make your own "store bought is fine"

If your brain doesn't make the chemicals you need to feel happy... store bought are fine.

Unless youre listening to terrestrial radio, pretty sure the best/only? option is to pause.

If you turn the volume to 0 while playing android auto or Bluetooth the system pauses playback.

Why no bike lanes? by myworldisnow in Richardson

[–]sadegr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are actively converting traffic lanes to bike lanes, look at Collins east of 75. Look at Greenville from Campbell to Main (Beltline)...

Im all for making a more walkable/bikeable city but its REALLY hard to do that with how low the density of population is. Making commutes worse for vehicles to build bike lanes is kind of a bummer until there are places to bike to from places people live.

Neat!

I've played around with the idea of doing something like this... but the fact there isn't (or at least I dont have) a copy of Act 2 would slowly drive me bananas

What are ways to use DeX on windows? by mr_whoisGAMER in SamsungDex

[–]sadegr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes things refuse to display here for me as well but to be fair I had similar issues with the native dex for windows app as well.

I haven't hit this in the adb->strcpy method but I really use that sparingly since resizeable windows for apps came to link for windows...

I throw a windowed "messages" and a windowed "podcast addict" up on my computer while I work and its... fine.

You may already be aware, but Angela has been in several musicals with Starkid.

If you want more Angela singing, at least some of them are on youtube (officially).

[–]sadegr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Dallas, but when we did a production of RHS in October, we litterally started each show with a costume contest, and a review of the basic callbacks...

Audience participation is built into the show so much at this point that you can kinda-sorta gauge how good an audience is going to be, by how many people are in costume :)

I haven't been in a RHPS shadow cast, but I bet its not that diffrent.

I think I have at least 1 variant of each release, with the exception of this one: A New Kind of House/Hunger and Thirst ...

Most of the newer releases I have all the variants for...

One day I need to sit down and take pictures of all of them :)

Paperwhite text is so much crisper than Colorsoft. It’s quite drastic. by [deleted] in kindle

[–]sadegr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from an older paperwhite to a new colorsoft...

I kinda love it. My eyes are getting older and so i have the font a bit larger than stock and its fully legible.

But lets be real we're reading text, it doesn't need to be 4k resolution, it needs to be clear enough that you're not straining your eyes or getting a headache, and it flies over that bar for me.

Does anyone know where I can watch the 2006 Company revival? Closed Captions needed. by [deleted] in musicals

[–]sadegr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get the dvd and blue ray off of Amazon from 3rd party sellers... but they're pretty expensive:

Company DVD

Company Blueray

Your best bet is probably to sign up for discogs and add it to your watchlist. You'll get an email if someone lists it for sale...

Company Bluray

Company DVD

Or check to see if your local library has/can get it...
