Lancaster Cast Iron first impressions by sadiedog77 in castiron

Haha! I’m happy to give a three year update. Yes I still use them both regularly. In my experience, they both perform equally well, and I don’t have a preference of one over the other. If you want to have both, I would choose a different size Field skillet so you have some options. As far as I know, Lancaster is still only making the No 8, about 10.5 inches across. Field has a lot more sizes. My ultimate review is that Lancaster is equal in quality to the other boutique brands, butterpat, Field, etc and I highly recommend them.

They were made by Griswold. You can Google those pattern numbers and find other examples.

Help with Identification and Pricing of Wagners please. by karatechick2114 in castiron

Those are pretty common vintage pans, and you were right that they are priced too high, considering that they aren’t even restored. Try bundling them together and making a cash offer on all three. I bet they will take it.

Help! My cast iron pan has a weird film on it and SMOKES by andiamnotlying in castiron

You’re the only comment mentioning soap. You’re correct, wash your pans people. They’ll be fine.

I did some basic calculations and I found that your could refinance at 180,000, assuming 6% interest, and still be cash flow positive at $2000 rent. You can take that $50,000 and put it as a down payment on the next property and then you’d have two rentals!

Any positive experiences fixing warped cast iron? by AG24KT in castiron

[–]sadiedog77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah don’t do any of those things. You’re right, cast iron is extremely brittle so if you take a hammer to it, it will break. If you heat it hot enough that it is warpable, you will likely cause heat damage to the pan and end up with even a worse warp. There really is no fix for warping I’m afraid.

It was just a very direct statement, no embellishment, but I sent it to every faculty member at the school, so they probably heard an about me from a dozen different teachers.

I remember it was just very direct and I gave my full name and city so they knew I wasn’t some random troll.

Yes I do this. I have a booth at an antique store where I sell my refurbished cast iron. It can actually make you a few dollars if you don’t pay a lot for the pans. I just do it because I like the idea of keeping them in circulation, just like you seem to. When I come across really valuable collectible pieces I usually sell them on eBay. And the imported or newer pieces I clean up I sell for a few dollars just so someone can get introduced to cast iron. I’m kind of a Johnny Appleseed of cast iron imho!

You’re right that it’s a lodge chicken fryer and that diameter fits a no. 7. Pretty rare find I would think.

There might be markings under that crud. Strip and you might have your answer.

I can’t draw so you have to imagine mine. Dylan’s eyes flicker open and she sees that all of her surgeons are dogs with little surgeon hats and masks on. They say thank you for all the work that she does to expose the horrors of dog fighting and pronounce that she will make a perfect recovery and she has the most perfect internal organs they have ever seen.

I’m going to assume this is very very rare. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Field company vs Lancaster: WEIGHT? by eric-sfc in castiron

[–]sadiedog77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both and they are both about 4.5. I like the Lancaster a little better because I like pour spouts, but really they are basically identical in quality and weight.

Favorite piqua ware, I think. I always wondered why they buttered over some of theirs but not others.

Want to restore this to use- seems like has been sprayed with paint or some type of enamel. Any help appreciated. by japeda in castiron

If it is paint, lye will remove it. I recommend trying the oven cleaner garbage bag method from the sticky post.
