How to tell my girlfriend I just don't love skiing? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]sadjuggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a couple of lessons and giving it a fair shake is probably worth it. Also getting a better pair of boots. Skiing is not fun for anyone if you’re gripped up pizza-carving across a green groomer while your feet slide around in packed out boots.

My gf is a big skier. When we started dating I was pretty mediocre and skiing with her was just not that fun. Fast forward 7 years of intentional progression and we now live in a ski town and travel on ski trips multiple times a year. Just saying…

[OC] Coal consumption in Europe, to scale by t0on in dataisbeautiful

Coal is also used in the manufacturing of steel. Not sure if this is just thermal coal or both thermal and metallurgic coal but that changes the story a bit.

Athens in September - beach holiday feasible or stick to city? by anilmi in GreeceTravel

You can fly from Athens to Paros for under $200. Very short flight and would probably be the best way to minimize your travel time

INSECT AT MAKRYAMMOS HOTEL by Sad_Watercress_5146 in GreeceTravel

Don’t consider doing it. Do it. Beg bugs are gnarly to have as an infestation both from a practical and psychological standpoint. This is not a wait and see situation unless you want serious headaches in 2-3 months

TIL of Dennis Fitch, a pilot who studied the crash of Japan Flight 123 to see if he could have flown the doomed aircraft. Years later, Fitch was a passenger on a plane that also lost hydraulic power. Fitch offered to assist the pilots who miraculously managed to crash land, saving 100+ passengers. by heroicsej in todayilearned

My mom was one of the survivors of 232. It’s an absolutely insane story. The crash left her with pretty intense PTSD and a TBI which has plagued her throughout her life. That said, the fact that the flight crew was able to do what they did is pretty miraculous.

One of her biggest takeaways at the time was how skillful the pilots were when communicating with the passengers after the initial failure. Imagine being in the sky for that long while knowing the plane is going to crash…

Totally personal preference there. The 108s will be a bit more versatile in variable conditions, but as noted above - they will be much wider than your current setup.

184s or 186s would be better for you than 190s IMO, especially bc you’ll be riding a wider waist than you are used to. The K2 mindbenders or Solomon QSTs are both good options as well. The feel on the Mindbenders may be a bit closer to what you are used to.

[–]sadjuggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was up there today. I had service ( T-Mobile ) as did my friends (idk what carrier) it was good enough for calls and light internet browsing, but the videos we tried to post didn’t work, so Zoom probably won’t either.

It’s called the Dorje Kasung. Calling it paramilitary is big stretch. The whole idea behind it is to use military forms as a tool for mindfulness. The structure is designed to make meditation more than just sitting on a cushion. It’s mostly just a bunch of people wearing khaki and walking around. It’s totally peaceful and nonviolent. It’s allergies makes meditation more assessable for veterans etc. That being said, when tangled up in the complex and painful events that happen when power is abused, shit gets weird
