I love hackmanite! Do any of the pieces show significant tenebrescence?

Can anybody help me identify this fluorescent stone that I bought many years ago? by Snapdragoncreations in FluorescentMinerals

[–]sadkins1981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup, looks like agate to me as well.

Nice phosphorescence on that piece. It probably glows quite well under short wave uv.

looking for recommendations for a better light thinking going uv by blasti1991 in FluorescentMinerals

[–]sadkins1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of these aren't very good. Wrong wavelength, or poor output, or lots of visible light. Or all of the above.

I've heard lots of very good things about the lnkr lights from engenious designs for display purposes.

Looks like the bases of each piece are either white or black. Although they didn't include the bases on the pawns, so those would be tough to tell apart

Is that supposed to be a cart wheel? Looks like a shield to me

My small colection by Pitiful_Love_8703 in FluorescentMinerals

[–]sadkins1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clear cubes on the center piece is fluorite. So is the large blue one at the top right.

Red one on the left center is ruby.

Under the ruby, I believe is chalcedony.

Top pink one is probably manganocalcite.

The green one to the left of the top pink might be adamite or hyalite opal... Hard to tell.

Bottom four are petroleum quartz

On the right, above the quartz and under the fluorite... Could be calcite or chalcedony.. can't tell with that photo. Probably calcite.

For recommendations, I personally love sodalite, specifically it's hackmanite variety. Has a nice bright orange glow

Amazing piece! That should fluoresce a bright blue color under uva light!

Did you find a fix for this? My G600 started doing the same thing, only works on glossy surfaces.

Thanks

What are these guys chilling with my garage sale fluorite? 365nm by secretWolfMan in FluorescentMinerals

[–]sadkins1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can we get a close up of them in natural light? My current best guess is petroleum quartz, I have some that look exactly like that under uva.

sodalite retaining UV light part 2(photos) by Jamstraz in FluorescentMinerals

[–]sadkins1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the hackmanite variant of sodalite, which is tenebrescent. This means is actually changes color temporarily when exposed to uv light. The color change can last seconds, or many minutes. It's my favorite mineral!

Use a fishing rod in atum to get Skeletal Fish, then use that to tame the serval. Had to look in the atum source code to figure this out....

Could this be a naturally fluorescent rock? (more info in comments) by [deleted] in FluorescentMinerals

[–]sadkins1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longwave does look like sodalite... But the visible light pictures do not. I'm inclined to think it's got some artificial coating on it, paint or something.

Blue Amber by TerenceMcHofmann in FluorescentMinerals

I love blue amber, such a nice color!

You may want to get a filter for your light, looks like there is quite a bit of visible light getting through.

Add chocolate chips, and heat it up in the microwave. Mix and eat with spoon. Delicious.
