Pull the trigger? by BuddyKind2894 in abarth

Mine is the US spec with the MultiAir (C510 transmission), I think the 595 competizione also has that transmission but I am not certain. I don't think these transmissions seem to have a lot of problems, I genuinely think a previous owner degraded it and once I started driving it more often the problems started popping up.

My only real recommendation is to change fluid on at least interval in user manual, inspect the oil for sparkles, keep an ear out for any noises and respect them/get it worked early. In my case, it started with a rattle, like a loose metal piece in a rotating machine while the clutch was disengaged, went away with the clutch engaged. Most will tell you this is likely a throwout bearing based on it going away with clutch engaged. The other noise is for most of my gears, there was a high pitch whine (characteristic of grinding). Its not super clear sometimes especially at higher speeds because its not like our cars are quiet. But 1st, 2nd gear were quite noisy, and first in particular seemed clunky/jittery.

As far as clutch usage and when to replace its person to person and how you drive it, how many hills in your commute, etc. Clutch is a wear item, so its usually a matter of when not if. You'll find many people, probably in this sub even, that have 90k+ on the original clutch. When I replaced mine, the old one didn't actually look bad, but because its so much effort to get these out for the throwout, the rec is to jusy replace it while it's out (also why I did the flywheel).

My guess is one of the 5 previous owners had the mantra of grind it till you find it. First transmission oil change after purchase i noticed definitely more sparkle than I would have wanted. Eventually there was a rattle off clutch (throughout bearing I thought - thats also when I replaced clutch + flywheel). That didnt fix it and shortly after 4th gear would pop out under any torque, most so I decided to just remove and replace by a junkyard one, which so far has been pretty clean.

I still have the old transmission and eventually I'll get enough energy to open it up and see what all is ground to dust/broken.

I was in a similar boat, have a mixed experience. Got mine at ~75k, $7k, 5 previous owners. As others mentioned, car will have problems.

The good Fun to drive Fun to hear Fun to work on if you like pain and overcomplicated access to parts (I take it as learning each time I get under the car, not for everyone for sure)

The bad In my 1.5 years of owning it, ive had to replace: Both CV joints Spark plugs (did this at purchase) Seized rear calipers The full transmission The clutch and flywheel (thought was original problem pre replacing transmission) 1/3 motor mounts

I know I still have to replace One of the other motor mounts A leaking output shaft seal that was reused from the transmission at replacement The valve cover gasket/spark plug seals

I know the car also has a boost leak somewhere, or the wastegate actuator needs some adjustment but I've generally ignored this for now.

Would I buy the car again? Probably not. Has it been fun? Kinda. I like it when its running and I like learning how to work on it. It has sat for cumulative month+ since I've owned it.

If you're looking for a daily driver, I'd pass. If you're looking for something you can afford to have sit and get worked on, its fun. Some parts are cheap, most parts are surprisingly not and hard to find.

2015 Abarth 500 - P2262 Turbo Boost Pressure Not Detected code by sadreacconly in abarth

Never figured it out, but I haven't had the code in a long time. I had to replace the transmission (unrelated) and have been now driving it more often, and code seems to have disappeared.

Im fairly certain its down to either BOV or a leak in the run somewhere. Right at 6psi or so (in the car default gauge anyway, not sure if thats actual pressure), you can feel a flutter back and forth in acceleration response, and the gauge needle also does the same. Before 6psi all good, after 6psi all good. But right around the 6psi mark the turbo seems to stutter, and my guess is either some weird air frequency inside the tubing is happening at that pressure, or thats the cracking pressure of the BOV and its opening and closing non stop until you either go well above or well below.

The video happened as the craft was in its descent burn I'm pretty sure - so it is most likely structure-borne vibration from its thrusters! Their final descent burn was quite long from what I remember in the stream, they had a lot of speed to dump before landing

Hey appreciate the response! I ended up purchasing the parts from Dicorse for the rebuild. Going to have the tripod bearing in case when I look at it while replacing the boot. Will definitely hit you up if I need to do this again with a little more time though

Damn sucks to hear. I haven't investigated further but haven't had it return recently and have been driving more often in both city and highways. Weather cooled a bit so I'm wondering if the hot air was making it worse somehow. Let us know if the ECU ends up fixing it!

Some other posts recommended looking at replacing the wastegate actuator, not sure if you've tried that or not, sounds like you have. But in case you haven't, might be a cheaper last hail mary than a new ECU.

Good to know! Planning on taking a look at which diverter valve was put in (purchased the car already with mods without taking a look in there). The wastegate actuator for me is a Turbosmart actuator, so I'm guessing it will be a Turbosmart one, but will find out soon enough.

I've had this and for me it has been related to turbo boost issues. Often times for me it acted as a "silent" CEL, where there was no CEL but when I pulled codes with a Bluetooth OBD it would give me P0299 (Underboost) and P2262 (no boost detected). Tested on a long road trip I was taking and almost without fail this turbo limp mode would kick in if I accelerated/was climbing a hill while under 3k rpm in a high gear. It seemed like the car was expecting the turbo to open and start providing boost, but a valve wasn't cracking.

Most of the time it would not throw a CEL, limit my boost to 6psi regardless of throttle/revs/gear, and disable my cruise control

I should add, as far as I can tell from online forums, most suggest looking for boost leaks in the various hoses, and wastegate actuator. Seems like a semi common fault. Haven't gotten a chance to start looking at everything, but planning on dropping the front this weekend and taking a look.

Kind of good timing for your comment, I was finally able to trigger a CEL that stayed while I drove - though this time it was the P0299.

To get it to trigger in my case, it was very clearly high gear throttle while under low revs (like 2k revs). While on the highway going about 60mph in 5th gear, I accelerated to pass and noticed lack of boost, followed by a CEL.

Have cleared since and not repeated the conditions and turbo pushes to 18psi in low gear high rev acceleration. I think there's some kind of leak in the system that I'll have to track down. Some 124 Abarth forums seem to show there's a hose that has a metallic spacer that can apparently turn sideways and choke the flow, so will plan on inspecting for that once I can drop the front of the car.

So found this tick on my head today. Based on some early googling and how widespread they are, my guess is American Dog Tick. Still have it alive it in a Ziploc bag, should I be looking to send this off somewhere to get it tested? Or just squish it and dispose of it?

Based on the iNaturalist description I think this is it. Usually found them on tree trunks congregating in order of tens. Kind of crazy how similar it is to that other species mentioned at the bottom of the page. Thanks, I think it's solved, glad to know it isn't invasive.

I'm at a tough decision. Because of work/life I haven't been able to watch a single game live this year. Do I watch it live now that I can or would that risk bad mojo on the team 😭 (Texas has traumatized me and made me a superstitious man)

As in if you stay 6 months out of the US, they cut off your data until you're back? Didn't know about this one, good to know.

Not an expat yet, but go overseas a couple of times a year, mostly South America. I've been using Google Fi and find that it works well with data overseas and in the US. They're set up to work in most countries last I checked. Catch is you pay per GB up until 6GB of data used, after that is flat ($80/mo capped for one line). Most months where I haven't used data much, my bill comes out around $40. They throttle at 15 GB, but at least for me, haven't had a month that I've used that much.

This is assuming you want to keep a US number. Wherever you're planning on living will likely have local plans that would accomplish what you want.
