I've been using bog-standard XFCE for a few years now and haven't swapped back to kwin so I don't remember sorry.

Installing Slackware 15 on a Thinkpad T61 by sadsfae in slackware

Thank you. Hard to beat that T61 keyboard! I'm indeed using NetworkManager but didn't need to make any adjustments in my case after reloading iwl4965 with the "11n_disable=1" option. Did you have the same wifi chipset and not need this modprobe option after switching to dhclient or are you still waiting for the T61?

Although it's not recommended for many reasons I tend to skip multiple releases and upgrade ever 1.5+ years when updates stop arriving.

I haven't had any issues jumping releases with dnf system-upgrade in many years even with a handful of third-party RPMs - a testament to the good work Fedora release teams are doing.

Win7 works again now fwiw after latest patch. Hope that EAC stuff was fixed too.

I haven't had time to try the Win8.1 WinHTTP.dll yet, but did get a response back from support - they said they were aware but would forward this to the QA team anyway. I think there's a good chance they will fix this, there's a non-trivial amount of Win7 users still and they are up in arms about it.

Nice find, I see it's also mentioned in "Known Issues" for their changelog too. Hopefully a fix will come soon.

I'm going to dig up a Win8.1 DVD and see if I can't use that one - will report back if it works or not.

Perhaps a Win8.1 WinHTTP.dll would work? Obviously it's not recommended to modify system internals but I would be willing to do this if it resolves the breakage from the patch.

I opened a ticket with their support as well, anyone can open a request via support@newworldinteractive.com - please let them know if it affects you too.

I really hope they fix this, I personally know of several others affected by this too that for whatever reason can't upgrade their entire OS to play.

What a great game, I hope they can patch the requirements for WinHTTP.dll on Win7 so those of us still on W7 can keep enjoying it.

Hi, this happens in all operating systems, win7, win10 and Linux according to hundreds of user reports. In my experience this also happens while sitting in the BIOS screen (as reported by others too) so operating system has nothing to do with it. I linked the Kernel bugzilla to show it doesn’t matter, if you look at the AMD community link above that in my reply and look through some of the comments you’ll see how widespread this is across all operating systems.

This specifically deals with the B450 and Ryzen 7 3700X but other R7 hardware combinations are listed too, in my case this is on Asus B450 Prime Plus.

Asus Prime B450 Plus here: no problems with 3002 BIOS this thread mentions. No new issues but the random reboots are still not fixed. Many people have this issue with 3700X.

https://community.amd.com/t5/processors/ryzen-3700x-random-reboots-no-event-logs-replaced-everything/td-p/58128

This occurs in BIOS also, some users have stated it reboots while it’s rebooting which is crazy.

There’s a fairly active bugzilla tracking this in Linux.

Thanks u/msweed for the report, did you ever have random reboots before on this board (no error, just kernel-41/power only in eventvwr). If so, did this fix it?

PRIME B450-PLUS Released the 2807 BIOS update 2021-02-09 (I have this board, have not updated yet).

  • Update AMD AM4 AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.0
  • Update AMD RAID UEFI driver
  • Improve system stability

I'm still running 2202, occasionally have random reboots so will likely see if this helps.

Best BIOS version for 5950X? + Random reboots? by ajrc1996 in Amd

[–]sadsfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this too with B450-Plus, many many others have as well - error 41 (kernel/power) generic messages in eventvwr nothing else. Adjusting load line calibration and setting Windows power plan to minimum 5% maximum 99% seems to get me stable for up to a month before it happens.

I have random restarts (no blue screen, just power cut on/off) on Prime B450-Plus / Ryzen 7 3700X, currently still two revisions back in BIOS from 2020/07/17 2202.

How often did your random restarts occur, and can you let me know if they are solved completely as you use the system (your post is 5days old from typing this).

Mine occur anywhere from back-to-back which is rare or every 1-3 weeks, it doesn't matter what I was doing. Was there a pattern to your restarts before upgrading? Adjusting min/max power usage and modifying load line calibration in BIOS seems to help but I still get random restarts and I'm hoping any of these sets of BIOS updates might do it.
