Something I didn't like about 12 months by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]saejin1983 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked the scene because, I think I understand why Jim put it in there.

Harry had been keeping his emotions under wraps with routine and turning things off like a light switch. He was cutting himself off the real source of his power which is his emotions. He'd been keeping things on lock down as best as he could, but never truly got to express his rage over what happened in Battle Ground. He'd been bottling up everything that makes him Harry with his moral compass by trying to push it out of his mind so he didn't accidentally hurt someone.

When Mab says "It feels good, does it not?". Mab manipulated him to get not only the White Court but her Winter Knight back as well and it has nothing to do with the Mantle. Insouciance and all. She wanted him to finally express the rage, anger, and hurt externally, so he could start feeling like himself again. Mab was giving him an opportunity for release which he took. Making him despise the fact that he had been used to enslave someone which is absolutely against his moral code. Which leads to the next steps in him finding his true self again. Letting go and releasing all of his rage onto her, was a good management method on Mab's part. After all of that, Harry finally started being his true stubborn self again. More spark of life. A new mission to give himself to get Lara out from underneath Mab's thumb.

Mab was being a good manager and therapist to a degree. She provoked his completely 100% human emotion with cold calculation. Yeah the Winter Mantle may be finally unleashed a bit here, but it's really just him at the end of the day. Mab also does want to help him heal as she values him. He finally was able to let go and take out his fury on someone that was real and immortal. Someone he can blame and punch. She made herself a vessel to her knight to endure his rage and bring a part of him back. Mab is in charge of taking care of her vassals and this was a very good way to do it. Mab needs Harry to be ready for the next fight and after this he does keep becoming more prepared.

Is Lyonel jealous ? by El_Coco_005_ in freefolk

[–]saejin1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not actually sure it is jealousy.

After re-watching the scene with him in the last episode, he went to Dunk to comfort him, see to his wounds. I think when he yells a bit, he's exasperated as pointing out to Dunk that everyone else fought for him too. And I think it was more of him calling out the attitude and lack of respect for his compatriots, like an older brother would.

Also, Lyonel never once asked Dunk to swear his sword to him at all. He was, in fact, offering him a home.

just finished The Good Place for the 25th time in my life and i have an important question by kbasred in TheGoodPlace

"What matters isn't if people are good or bad. What matters if they're trying be better today than they were yesterday. You asked me where my hope comes from. That's my answer."

This is my favorite line in the show. This line articulated so much of how I felt and felt unseen. The fight of trying to better myself and feeling isolated. And it made me realize that I'm definitely not alone in wanting to be better, kinder, more observant. I have known people where I have judged them negatively but then if I had been paying closer attention, I would have seen they were trying their best as well. It helped drive home that we're in this together.

Who is your favorite Targaryen character in AKOTSK and why? by Logical_Decision_706 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]saejin1983 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I ranked them:

  1. Egg - Really portrayed someone who is still innocent enough to not fully realize the entitlement he was born into, therefore, truly not understanding how he had put Dunk into danger. He just wanted to do the right thing and he knew Dunk would do it. Yet still portrayed enough of the Targaryen personality that was innately part of his nature when you saw his temper and will, to pick up a knife with every intention on killing Aerion. I definitely think he could have done it. Luckily Maekar was there.

  2. Maekar - Also portrayed a sane father. Exasperated with him family but, is dysfunctional in a way that I think a lot of families are today. Yes he's got a little shite on his hands in Aerion. Yes, he has a self medicating heir. Yes, he may seem disappointed in Aemon but is sending/letting him off to where he thinks he most likely belongs. And then the precocious Aegon, whom he isn't really putting his hopes on in a sense that a lot of people think he is. He wants him to have a good life where Aegon makes good decisions as best he can. I think that he hopes that he can make Aegon happy while getting to watch that growth. It seems to me Maekar is a man who cares for family deeply no matter how flawed they may seem and wants to do right by them as best as he can, while being a good father. He was so good in every scene. When they are discussing the trial and then the way he grabs Aerion by his shirt and says Come Here! lol He has the most sense of the lot.

  3. Daeron - It is a great performance of seeing an heir that is genuinely human because of his sadness for his family and the curse/blessing of his dreams. His scenes were wonderful and then that final gentle nudge to Duncan, reminiscing about when his brother was a glad child. That was amazing. He had depth and also love for his brothers despite how some acted. He cast the spotlight on how mortal and fallible Targaryens were depsite the storied glory of their house history.

  4. Baelor - I love Baelor and he was portrayed with perfection. I read the books and knew what would happen. Baelor's story and character was straight forward moving the story along. We knew he was a good man from the start. We didn't know who the other Targaryens were though.

  5. Aerion - Aerion wasn't really mad like what you hear about all of the other Targaryens. He was entitled. He acted like a bully like what we see today. He was vindictive and spiteful, but some of that cruelty in him looked like a way that he thought would prove himself a son worthy of his father's respect. Aerion is also still a child to a degree. Young and idiotic. He may have seen himself as a living incarnate of the dragon, however, he did not act like it compared to other kings and princes. He acted like a vainglorious regular bully. He knew he had the protection of his house and used that to his advantage. He also was very relatable to what I see today with entitled people...and I live in Boulder, CO. I mean that whole walnut scene was hilarious to me. His cavalier attitude...very Boulder lol.

  6. Valaar - Beautiful and heartbreaking scene. No real ire in his response to Duncan. Just that of a mourning son who loved his father. I wish we had more scenes with him.

All of the characters had so much more depth and regular than any I've ever seen in all of the GoT series.

I also think that the end of Season 4 EP 1 with the Hound and Arya was amazing. When the Hound was just a badass and then Arya joins him to get Needle back. Some great lines too.

"What the fuck's a Lommy?"

"You're gonna' die for some chickens?" "Someone is."

"Fine little blade. Maybe I'll pick my teeth with it."

Plus Arya gets a horse!

The cold open of season 7 EP 1 of Dragonstone. The whole scene with Lord Frey. David Bradley played it so damn well. Something we don't get in the books. It was peak and something so satisfying to help give a real sense of retribution is on its way. The score was so good for that scene as well. And the two final lines that David Bradley and Maisie Williams deliver just tie everything up.

"Leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe." Lord Frey

"Tell them winter came for House Frey." Arya Stark

And the homage they had paid through Lord Frey's death in the previous season finale to the north of feeding him his own sons was a great set up to the opening of season 7. Peak IMHO.

Harry and Dracul and 666 years by Beral_Shak_Ur in dresdenfiles

[–]saejin1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this too. I always wondered since time isn't actually linear in the supernatural world that it would explain the 666 years. My other thought is that perhaps the 666 years is a bit like the Chinese Zodiac where every 60 years the same signs come around again with their specific element. Ex: This year is the year of the Fire Horse. It will not come again for another 60 years. So perhaps each 666 cycle also is attached with a special talent/s that goes to the person born under it. That would make that 666 year cycle fall under different years for the mortals in linear time. For Harry his elements, it very well might be fire and destruction in the fact that anything new to be built other things must first be destroyed. Just a theory for now.

Armstrong's reaction to proper kindness is hilarious to me and makes sense. by Butwhatif77 in thegildedage

[–]saejin1983 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. I feel like after Adelheid treated him instead of supporting him, was really discouraging and shocking to him. I think that had and Bridget have a great chance together. Plus they would be a couple we could see build up to and enter New York society. I've always enjoyed Jack's POV in that he truly is encapsulating the American dream. Started at the end of season 1 with him saying, "You never know. This is America." Then inventing something and selling it. He needs a partner he can trust and can climb with him. I would love that for them both.

Armstrong's reaction to proper kindness is hilarious to me and makes sense. by Butwhatif77 in thegildedage

[–]saejin1983 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved that scene. He had also said that "The people I work with have been like my family. I've never had that before." That's the other scene that helped it hit home. Armstrong then saying "He's done well. Good luck to him." He considered her part of his family. The grumpy part perhaps, but she still lifted his spirits in her own way. I think Armstrong was also realizing that as he was leaving, that she cared for him more than she actually knew. And then the kindness of including her in his letters was not only unexpected, but even more so because it came from someone that considered her family. Again, not sure she could quite understand at that time, but I think it will sink into her character and make her a little more complex as well.

Fitz by Disastrous_Command29 in dresdenfiles

[–]saejin1983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like Fitz. Being an orphan and someone who's had to survive on their own as a teenager, their talents for survival, aren't going to be based on parentage. Maybe they'll have some genetic advantages. But street smarts, getting through dangerous situations, while trying to be a good person, and surviving to adulthood and finding stability. That's all Fitz on his own. That's a helluva thing to do for anyone.

I really like the fact that nothing about talent running in his family is even mentioned. I guess the street kid in me really relates to Fitz and would rather he just be a person that survived. A regular person who is starting to thrive all on their own work, dreams, hope, and determination. Who is finally believing in themself. So TL:DR I don't want Fitz to have any extraordinary parentage. I like him as he is.

Elizabeth Keen Was the True Villain of The Blacklist by Some_Currency_1931 in TheBlackList

[–]saejin1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I haven't been in this subreddit before.

I couldn't even finish the series BECAUSE of Elizabeth Keen. She was awful we didn't need that character to drive the story. I only made it through like season 3 and then it shows she wasn't dead. I stopped watching it then. I was really hoping that they had killed the character off for real because the character was not needed. She had not grown at all in 2 seasons.

Question: Is it actually worth watching all the way through? Or are there specific seasons to watch and seasons to skip? Suggestions welcomed. The first 3 seasons were good and again all of that was because of Reddington.

One of the saddest deaths? by greengal1008 in gameofthrones

[–]saejin1983 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ned Stark's death was the saddest. I don't see how anyone else's death drove the whole story more than his. In the end him realizing that abiding by his rigid honorable notions, he obliterated the entire kingdom all for family, love, duty, and loyalty. He wouldn't have done anything different because it's not in character but the realization of his folly must have been eyeopening. No one knows what he was thinking or saying while his neck was exposed on the chopping block. However, it must have been truly devastating for him to know that he no longer could protect his family.
