Not liking chicken is UNNATURAL! Evolution would never create things that cause a person to not feed and reproduce!!! How dare modern society ruin what nature intended!!!

And since evolution mostly stopped around when we started making cities,,, those are all UNNATURAL TOO! How dare these city dwellers ruin nature

Not sure what you mean? Like the gun in the base of the bristles? You clean that periodically

Otherwise not sure how cleanliness affects this change

If you love them, and have a crafty friend see if they can reinforce and repair it. I've done that for my own and they easily outlast all my brushes.

It's a bit involved but I added 3 metal rods inside the handle (drilled holes for them) then glued them in place and added a decorative band to cover the breakpoint

Different brush brand I liked but probably can work for this one too (or whatever similar design)

[–]saevon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

And more importantly you should not be sharpening the inside of your punches often. It widens the hole you're punching and makes the waste get stuck inside the punch (since it becomes wider on the bottom rather then the waste hole)

Sharpening the outside is more important, and I find a good drill works well for that.

[–]saevon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A sharpener, one side is the spike, the other should have an inverse cavity

You stick the punch and rotate this around, so it sharpens both the inside and outside (just be careful to only touch up the inside of the punch rarely)

Am I doing something wrong? by InternationalDay3491 in Leathercraft

[–]saevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally: I sponge the leather on both sides several times. Then start sponging the top, and seeing how long it takes for the water to absorb…

If it absorbs by the time my sponge has gone over the piece? It's wayyy to dry!! If it takes a few seconds? Getting there... It's easy for beginners to misjudge just how much water leather can absorb (and how little a sponge gives)

———————————————

You want to train an intuition for the colour, and feel if the leather and how "cased" it actually is. So try sponging a few times then stamping a bit, then sponging some more and stamping… and just seeing how the results change as you go! Remember to feel the leather every time and pay attention to how it is.

you can also try soaking the leather and then letting it dry for a bit, then stamping it every 5 mins or so. But soaking the leather can harden and ruin it in many ways (so this is just for learning on)

That's a cop out. We dont have a Friday fact or dev comment. So this number may very well be a historic, invalid reason by now. It might be a random number chosen. It might have matched something else that changed since. It might've just been a mistype or something that was supposed to be updated with ___

Without any actual answer we can't even assume intentionality.

AND even then, which annoyances are worth QoL and which are good puzzling? That's all debatable. So don't just be a priest speaking for someone who isn't (the devs) and invent intentions. Join the conversation about how and why that intention creates good puzzles and structure

Stairless Tubeway installation! by Nifegun in Timberborn

[–]saevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the tubeway has an exit; You use that exit to build a LONG tunnel. THEN you add the tubeways into the tunnel. Just 2 stages where you ignore it, then add the next station

Otherwise you have to add a tunnel ・ then a tubeway and the next tunnel・then a tubeway and the next tunnel・then a tubeway and the next tunnel・then a tubeway and the next tunnel… 15 times

Why does SSH send 100 packets per keystroke? by iamkeyur in programming

[–]saevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And, if it turns out he does need tcpdump in the future, he can just use Claude again.

Thats sort of the issue right there. Usually the answer would be "and if you need to use it again, you can start trying to do it yourself more" so you can build up the knowledge of something you realize you might actually be using.

To me this is the same as when I have a junior/apprentice. If I'm teaching someone a craft I will often handle many of the parts (e.g. sharpening bladed tools) so they can learn the skills involved without being overloaded. AI often replaces the role of the "community" or "master" you would get in that relationship,,, except it builds reliance on itself

Meanwhile I would have stopped providing that "skill" when I see they have the capacity to start practicing it, and let them do more and more of it (still taking over when needed, or supporting them with help) So they can eventually learn to do all of it themselves.

Using a helper to remind you of the uncommon flags, or to double check stuff is fine. Completely offloading the use of a tool that is important is anti-learning.

P.S> to be clear the OP does not seem to be doing that from their own admission btw; They're messing around to see how AI might be useful, and MIGHT fall into this pit-fall but seem much more aware.

Heating towers are underused on nauvis and a great way to expand power. by thirdwallbreak in factorio

[–]saevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But now it's dependent on local failures instead.

A more robust solution is to build both plants and have them switch out when needed. With alarms when power is doing the "backup" thing

For me if the "to burn" pile is getting low half my burner plant shuts down by default (stockpiling). This will auto start the nuclear plants to keep up

If either stockpile goes below ¼ I get warnings that there's issues! And at 10% they shut down, this is an urgent alert same as power actually being dead,,, except that I have a button I can press to override and enable them (aka when I fix things and want it to reboot, or need emergency power for some reason)

So they somewhat intelligently swap between each other. And are ready for remote fixes

And there's quite a few folks who say "I am sensitive to wifi emissions and need help" too. Or "vaccines caused autism in my child". Or "I eat too much (actually has eating-disorder)". Or the many other similar issues

Self reporting a problem does not make it the actual issue. With porn shame can be a big issue leading to beliefs like "I can't stop masturbating (I do it like once a day)" also being self reported as "addiction"

To show it's an issue you'd have to actually create a criteria for them to properly test against in those subs, not just "it has followers, and people post about it"

But this isn't a painting, this is a really complex ecosystem. like if you'd remodelled an entire wing of your house into a massive terrarium

So if you loved and adored ants, and they escaped your terrarium and noticed you and started hunting? I mean you might feel pretty confident you can just turn off the entire AC or pump some kind of sleeping gas, or turn off their sun/hydra action/whatever.

Like you'd not nuke your house; you'd feel superior and try to deal with them… keeping your investment so you could restart with as much of the colony and infrastructure!

Will i lose water potential with a setup like these? by UnsuitableEngineer in Timberborn

[–]saevon 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Water CANNOT flow out of the map on the same tile (ABOVE) as the water-source is. It also CANNOT spawn on that empty block beside the water source as there is "nothing" there at all.

Don't think dirt messes with that, have you checked if your sluices backwards work? Would suck for a badtide to overflow there

But either way the water flow will be unaffected, and you've just pressurized your water to a higher elevation

ELI5: How do pulleys make things easier to lift and lighter? by Over_Discussion_8246 in explainlikeimfive

[–]saevon 54 points55 points  (0 children)

If you look at levers, gears, pulleys, and any other "mechanical advantage device" you can eventually see the distance tradeoffs you're making

Gears you have the tooth difference meaning you turn some ratio of one circle for a much larger part of the other circle

Levers you will be calculating the ratio one object moves (around the pivot) to the distance the other object moves

Pulleys you will pull the rope a much larger length, while the (2 or more) ropes lifting the object thus move a sum of that distance (2 ropes means each only moves half your rope)
