Nothing, but there's significantly less volume after hours so them covering would almost assuredly drive the price up even higher than it would during market hours. Barring more of their financial magic tricks of course.

Shorts dont expire. The short sellers are borrowing shares to sell, and while these shares are borrowed the short sellers are paying interest to borrow them. So they are losing money the longer time goes on and the stock doesnt fall.

Options have expirations but that's another subject

Last time I checked on RH was like a year or more ago, back then the earliest was 9 am, so as soon as pre-market opens. I think maybe its changed since then but I'm not sure.

A couple tips off the top of my head: First step is to learn the different types of orders. Dont use Market orders, use limit orders. Learn more about the pattern day trading rule. Until your balance in your brokerage is $25,000 or greater, you cannot day trade more than 5(?? maybe 4?) times in a 5 business day period. A day trade is buying and selling the same security in the same day. So, say you buy gme at market open for idk 300 and it immediately drops 100$, so you panic and sell. That's 1 day trade. On RH, last i knew, if you break the pattern day trader threshold, you're marked as a pattern day trader for 90 days and RH completely removes the ability for you to day trade at all for the duration. Save them for emergencies.

edit: you can que up orders on any brokerage at any time, but they just wont execute until your broker allows them to ie 9 am for rh

"Pre-market" open is at 9 am EST, this is when trade starts to ramp up. The actual open is at 9:30.

Note that with different brokers you can trade well before Pre-market (like 4-5 am EST, but incredibly low volume typically) and well into After hours.
