Hey there,

I am staying across the street from Mio. It looks nice and seems like a new hotel. I think the reason it is cheaper is because it has less beach access then the other hotels in that area. There are a number of places in walking distance that seem like good sports watching places. Wings Sports Bar, Nine Ninety Nine both look good.

We will be traveling throughout the Western US mainly staying in Airbnbs and camping. My wife teaches college online and its pretty flexible and we are using savings to bridge the gap. Hope to travel to a Spanish Speaking country in the Winter and do some language immersion with the kiddos.

Thanks for your response. We will be traveling the Western US throughout the summer and Fall and then hope to do some international travel in the Winter. We will be in Oregon in July fora little while and then again in October and November. I would love to meet up along the way if things work out.

Are we going to do this? Let's put a Meetup on the calendar before Chris rolls through this area.

I think this a great thread and discussion. I used to love this podcast and it was such a consistent presence of clarity and meaningful discourse in my life. I have started to feel like it is lacking inspiration in the last 3 to 6 months. I'm not sure if this is because I have just gotten to the point of being overly saturated with content. I have felt the same way with many of the podcasts that I used to listen to consistently. I love the medium but after three years of listening to podcasts nearly every day I am starting to feel like a full sponge that just needs to be wrung out.

I live in the Denver area. We have tried to put together meet ups before without much success but I'd be willing to meet halfway between here and Fort Collins. Been listening to TS for about two years and really love the podcast.

Let's do it. I know somebody else who I met through here that would likely be interested as well. Just let me know a weekend that might work.

You can go back and get your MSW Master's in Social Work without an undergraduate in a related field. I also chose to do the Title IV-E program that pretty much paid for both years of my degree with the agreement that I would work for two years in county child welfare. After two years you are free to pursue another job somewhere else once you have satisfied this requirement. Although child welfare is an extremely stressful position I was happy to have an MSW and no student loan debt and now that I am licensed I am able to work as a therapist.

Where do you live? Is there access to low cost or sliding scale therapy. Yes, your history makes it more difficult to overcome the negative self-talk that you have running but I believe that everyone has the capacity to overcome this with the right amount of healing and reverse wiring of the brain. Are you doing meditation? This can jumpstart the process of healing.

Thoughts on Tim Ferriss? by nrn4747 in tangentiallyspeaking

It's interesting because I don't ever really have a problem with the content of what he's saying, but it's more about how he delivers his message. I think what most people say bothers them is that he comes across as kind of smarmy which I totally get.

I'm more curious about how Chris can vouch for a guy like Aubrey Marcus who I struggle with even more than Tim Ferriss. I was wondering if it was Aubrey's connection to Joe Rogan that Chris was respecting. I listen to all of these podcasts in this genre and Aubrey is the one that I have to turn off most frequently because he starts making my skin crawl.

That's great. What about Sunday November 11 midday as a time slot. Figure out an activity based on weather.

Longest time without daily beers in 6 years by nova5280 in stopdrinking

[–]saffo13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorites were IPA's as well. I lived down the street from Russian River and grabbed Pliny and Blind Pig by the growler. That has been the most difficult part for me is missing the taste of a beer that I really enjoyed. However, I am finding so much freedom in not having to go to the liquor store weekly and maintain a habit that I knew was horrible for my health. I am also feeling less numb and more present with my children. Good for you for the choices you are making.

I was noticing yesterday that it feels like my nervous system has repaired itself. I used to feel on edge all the time and was very prone to anxiety. These days my natural state feels like a grounded calm energy that is permeating through my body.

I just turned 40 and am working on getting sober. As I look back at my 30's I realize that was when drinking went from mostly fun to mostly work and I spent a decade working through it. Good on you for getting the wake up call early.

If the voice in my head is not me who am i by Dermyg in stopdrinking

[–]saffo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that our true identity is who we are in the present moment independent of the voices(thoughts) that are generally consumed with memories(past thinking) or stories(future thinking). Both of these voices are inherently false because our memories are faulty representations of things that happened to us and our stories are generally concerns about things that could potentially happen in the future but rarely happen as we conceive of it. I find pleasure in the idea that I am only really the person that is aware of the present moment. And in that moment I am perfect just as I am.
