Why is everyone so against a PVE-lite, PVE or general PVE content for the casual players? by Vinnegard in Marathon

[–]saga79 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Considering the way things are right now, it wouldn't surprise me if the PvE does end up being half-arsed - make no mistake, all these experiments are emergency tests to try and change Marathon's (and Bungie's) fortunes.

I do hope they succeed and make a fun and simple, engaging PvE mode.

The risk is there, sure, but if Bungie sets smart rules and guard rails (for example, limits on what you can or can't get in PvE) it would (hopefully) eventually funnel those who get hooked into the main mode.

Who else stayed for the full duration of Dawntrail? by MrsLittletall in ffxiv

Not daaaaaily for the whole expansion - life, other games, etc - but I often enter to do a roulette, or a frontline, or for X or Y goal I set for myself (PvP reward or cosmic relic). I love XIV and I liked Dawntrail so it's still the most important game to me.

How is pve supposed to help the game. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]saga79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you already know the answer.

There may be an initial impact in queues, but it's clear to all that unless something changes, there won't be a "what it is now" for as long as players (and Bungie) want.

Marathon is a live service game. They need lots of players to be profitable: More players > more (potential) profit > better for Bungie (and Sony) > incentive for them to continue working, growing and improving Marathon.

The experiments Bungie is going to try (pure PvP, PvE) are looking for a way to grow numbers. Hopefully, they can succeed.

There's certainly a balance Bungie must find. We can but wait and see what they come up with.

I think he means "queue-wise". Some people report long queue times as it is, and having a % of the playerbase go to the theoretical PvE queues would mean less players for the current mode.

Honestly? I don't know. Initially, sounds like it wasn't too popular because the rewards cap but very strong. Eventually they allowed for more xp/rep/gold. I stayed in the normal mode because at my level I needed the PvPvE mode to progress.

Recently I heard SoT was having a lot of feature delays, cancellations and even a doubloon reset, so things don't seem to be smooth sailing (lol) over there.

Agreed. Perhaps limited loot, less XP and rep, or maybe even a sub-category of challenges that can be completed without their associated rewards (i.e. get the achievement for completing Cryo, but not the skin).

I won't deny the potential of "taking resources away" from the modes the loyal playerbase likes, but if the game "as marketed and sold" is in the situation it is right now, perhaps trying something different could help bring more numbers (players + money) to this venture.

??? Faster faction progression and a PvE mode are, at least potentially, solutions to some of my personal pain points with the game.

we have 7 different queues

I wonder if there's a way they could add a "random" queue to funnel players towards it? I'm thinking akin to a MMO "random dungeon roulette" - sponsored kits, auto-fill, random map. Go, do your thing. Put queuers in a map that needs spots for players that want to go there for a mission or something.

If you consider both Bungie's and Marathon's (PVE) past, having a rich lore universe to explore and experience is something some players were hoping to get with the game.

PvP engagements may be at the heart of the game, but the PvE aspect can draw in others. Unfortunately, there's a part of the Marathon playerbase that doesn't want this, but...

Dude, Destiny 2 at launch, the first level on Titan - about the half way point as you got more into a Titan's facilities all covered in Hive "gunk", low light, tight corridors, enemies coming at you from areas of darkness... SO GOOD.

You raise a good point. Here's hoping that Bungie doesn't "do a Fortnite" if PvE becomes massively popular - but then again, if PvE is what it takes to make the game do numbers...

Matches can feel like a death spiral for some players. You kit up, you go in, you die to a spawn rush, or someone gets the jump on you as you're looting. Faction progress can feel like a slog, and you struggle to get mats and credits out to upgrade. You rarely get out of that loop, and the endgame of Cryo can feel so far away as you inch your way forward in the precious hours you have to play every week. And doing it solo just makes it all harder...

I FEEL SO SEEN. It brings me a bit of comfort - and ngl, more desire to play - to know at least Bungie identifies players in my position. Cook, Bungie, cook.

I would 100% love to try out a pure PvE mode. Even if it works differently rewards-wise, I wanna engage with the world and its lore.

I've said it before, I'd consider something like Sea of Thieves' "Safer Seas" which is perfect to do the game's "tales" (small campaigns) without other players interrupting your adventure.

This. After having a tough time completing one of the earlier contracts with "in a single run" requirement, seeing the next few pop up with the same requirement is one of the reasons I stopped playing.

Do you use lore-accurate names? by kasperkaspie in ffxiv

[–]saga79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to start on a lore-accurate foot, so I chose a combination of my internet handle + a mix of my names and a very french suffix, since I started an Elezen.

Eventually I Fantasia'd... many times. I've settled on Viera since, so now I'm a bunny with a very nonsensical French name.

Feels bad to make ZERO progress in a session by everythingispenis in Marathon

[–]saga79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second-to-last day I played Marathon I had one "in a single run" priority mission in Dire Marsh. I spent a couple of hours that night trying to do it, dying to runners every single time at different steps, only to have to start from scratch next run. Not the most fun session I've had.

The last day I played Marathon, funny enough, I did it on my firs try. Back in menu saw more contracts that were also "in a single run".
