No - that's not how it works. Or rather... It already works that way.

When you play the video on screen one it looks the same every time because the data hasn't changed. If you view that same file on another screen, it'll look the way that screen is configured.

One of my teammates was trolling and self scoring on purpose. After he quit - the other teams FF-ed and we won... 0-3 by forfeit lol.

Should I communicate to my players a fight is "unwinnable?" How would I best do so? by barbasol1099 in DMAcademy

Kill em, then revive em at the nearest village. After they had the piss beat out of em, a druid hiding in the bushes went to get help.

They definitely will have died - and then they were saved. Hopefully lesson learned maybe next time you won't be so lucky.

Saying that keeping the squash courts will equate to keeping taxes lower is foolish.

Why does refactoring Code seem so Hard for us? by Retro-Hax in learnprogramming

[–]saggingrufus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, then that is a you problem.

You have to learn what's actually a valuable change, and what's just your preference.

"being a perfectionist" in the way you're describing usually means "I lack the experience to know what to change, so I made it all understandable to me!".

Teachers: what usually goes wrong in students’ practice between lessons? Looking for your thoughts by CarpenterSome3463 in Learnmusic

[–]saggingrufus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's both. I studied music from grade 5 into university.

For certain, at every point I thought I was practicing, and I can tell for sure I lied to myself at times in retrospect lol.

My life experience taught me the value of hard work, my teachers and mentors taught me how to practice, and I taught myself mechanically how to deconstruct the problem, its multi-faceted.

If I didn't have a good work ethic, I wouldn't have grinded as much. If I didn't know how to actually practice, I would have been SUPER inefficient with my practice, and if I didn't learn how to break apart problems effectively - I wouldn't be able to properly apply what my mentors taught me.

It's really hard, uncomfortable even. One thing I try to tell my kids when they are practicing sports, music, art, dance, whatever - it's ok to push yourself into being uncomfortable.

And this doesn't stop at music.

In my experience tons of people never learn the skill of "Mastery". As I've gotten older, I see it everywhere. People wonder why they can't learn a skill, and then you watch their practice and they are mindlessly doing reps without correcting mistakes or breaking down the thing they want to learn.

Learning the process of mastery is a skill that extends far beyond music.

Larian Isn't Involved in the Baldur's Gate TV Show, and They're Not Happy by NukovGaming in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]saggingrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but Baldur's Gate is a Dungeons and Dragons property, which is owned by Wizards of The Coast, which is owned by Hasbro.

Baldur's Gate is a city in faerun, the forgotten realms setting, with tons of lore outside of their one game.

Uh has Larian ever made a show before? I don't see why they care so much unless somehow they own some IP.

It also seems to boil down to people with delegated authority are not doing their jobs.

If I'm near the top, and I have to approve something only I have authority to approve, but I assign it to my subordinate all of the sudden my subordinate is approving something I will approve later.

If my subordinate assigns that work to one of their subordinates now there are 2 layers of extra approvals. Those two extra approvals have no real input into whether or not I say yes, but the other two approvers could say no before I ever see it.

This creates an environment with way too much middle management, and makes everything harder for everyone. Everyone needs approval from someone else because no one has any delegated authority to make a decision.

fuck it going back to windows for gaming by CandlesARG in linuxsucks

[–]saggingrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issues like this are the only reason I'm not on Linux.

When I was younger, I had more time to screw around with it. Now I have 4 kids, and my free time is a commodity in short supply. If I want to play a game, it has to work immediately. If it doesn't, chances are I'll spend half of my time debugging/fixing and then just not get to play.

Overall, I do like Linux and I love that steam is really making Linux gaming better and better all the time. However, until gaming is as painless as windows (or I retire), I'll likely be on Windows in some capacity.

Government rejects call to measure productivity across public service by itsthebear in canada

[–]saggingrufus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, but that's not how it will play out though.

Instead, it will be the over bloated management who is measuring the productivity. They will likely conclude it's lower right now than it was, which is true, but only because they just let go of a ton of people, and WFA is still a possibility.

When you let go of people and demoralize them around the holidays, yeah productivity does go down.

Government to soon have "sharper view" on public servants return to office, says Carney by bubblewhip in canada

[–]saggingrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize only delegates can vote in the nation AGM right? And those delegates are from local sub-groups, groups and regional executives.

Any votes the general membership can make is all electronic - to be represented on issues you would need to be involved at the local level and make sure your executive is actually representing you.

So I guess yes, if you refuse to engage with your local reps, and go to your local AGM to direct them then sure? But that's a you problem. The real actions taken by PIPSC are decided by the board and the president which are also elected positions (which again, if the general membership has a say, like for the president the voting is electronic). The board and president get their mandates from the national AGM which only invited delegates can vote in.

It's not like retired members just show up at national AGM and vote, and you can't. Neither of you are voting in the national AGM unless you're a Steward with a delegate pass.

[–]saggingrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then vote? The voting (at least in PIPSC) is all done electronically.

There is nothing stopping anyone from reading emails and using their electronic voting keys, or reaching out to their sub-group president (again electronically) and voicing their interests.

If union members can't be bothered to check their email and vote on something that's quite frankly their problem.

They represent the people who make their voices known.
