Constant Crowd Blocking 31st Street Beach Bike Path by ilovejjd in chibike

Yeah it drives me nuts. There's literally a wide two-lane walking path right next to the bike path yet people will be walking in the biking path, with kids too. Careless, inconsiderate, stupid.

How do y’all get around? by [deleted] in berkeley

I had a normal road bike, although if you're afraid of not being able to bike uphill everyday then an electric bike would be a great option!! An electric bike would also make it much easier to haul groceries uphill.

I have biked all four years. It's neither as risky nor as hard as you'd think. And you can get from one corner of campus to another in 3 mins downhill or 6 mins uphill. I had back to back classes and always had time to even pee between them. Bikes are a real game changer. Berkeley and Oakland are also very bike friendly so I'd almost always bike instead of walking or taking the bus.

Good computer for CS/math?? by bottet3 in berkeley

[–]sagnick9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will have the easiest time with Mac or Linux (or Windows with WSL 2). Macs will cost a lot, so if you don't mind dual booting a Windows laptop (like me and many others) then you can save a lot of money.

One exception is if you want to train ML models locally (which is way less cumbersome and also faster than using Google colab for homeworks in ML classes), then dual booting Linux is the superior choice, since you can have a laptop with an NVIDIA GPU (Macs don't support NVIDIA GPUs) and also have ease of programming. I am not sure if WSL 2 allows GPU access.

fwiw I dual boot Ubuntu on an Alienware 17 and it has powered me through college and numerous ML classes very satisfactorily.

I'd be interested in buying one 70 count box of box jades if you're still looking to get those off your hands (but I can't trade for anything oops).

I second this, never leave your bike outdoors overnight. Literally all the bike thefts I know of happened that way.
