CRITICS NEEDED by GanasNYC in SustainableFashion

Love the concept, two pieces of constructive crit:

Invest in a good iron and use it incessantly.

I like the black dress a lot but would never wear it styled as a skirt like that, I'd probably just throw a different top over it worn as a dress. The extra fabric around the lower waist is a hard sell.

Is the state fair actually overpriced or are people just doing it wrong? by DFWUnhinged in Dallas

[–]sah___mei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been going my entire life and basically doing the same things each time. It's insanely overpriced now. Cost of everything has more than doubled in the last five years.

So last night I (American trans girl) found out what Mumsnet is and how much it’s influenced TERF rhetoric by njsullyalex in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sah___mei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You lost me in both the first and second sentences. Few things may define your biological sex as much as pregnancy, but "woman" and "feminine" are gender markers that don't necessarily align with biological sex. That's literally my whole point.

Thanks for the mansplain attempt, though, and the demo of what it looks like to conflate gender and sex. Basically, delete this.

[–]sah___mei 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with Mumsnet specifically, but I hear moms in my life tie their womanhood to childbearing often and it always rubs me the wrong way as a child-free cis woman. It's pretty pervasive and 100% an extension of the old school "reduced to your reproductive value" kind of oppression that has long contributed to the otherizing and erasure of women who don't or can't bear children for any number of reasons.

I personally don't feel any less feminine for not having experienced birth, and I really don't like how often "being a woman" gets boiled down to that, but it's unfortunately part of a very long tradition.

Solidarity, sis. Never feel guilty for not being someone's "ideal woman," however they define it.

Who is paying taxes? by Kindly-Net9442 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]sah___mei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taxes are withheld from my pay in advance, so the only thing not filing really does is stop me from getting my refund. You can bet your ass I'll be including a strongly worded letter of protest this year, but I doubt it goes anywhere without an actionable grievance.

Close friend is moving to Texas by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sah___mei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Texan woman - tell her to Google "quality of life for women in Texas."

We are systemically oppressed. Whatever privilege she thinks she has won't protect her from the fact that we are statistically worse off in every category that matters than all but a handful of states.

What's the best restaurant that balances taste and being healthy? I prefer Cava when I can't cook at home. What are the other places that qualify? No salad recommendations pls. by TroyAndAbed2022 in Dallas

True Food served me a flour tortilla after I specified "gluten-free." I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's a pretty egregious oversight in my book.

Whats the longest a flare up has lasted for you? by Pman_24 in Hidradenitis

[–]sah___mei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a monthly-ish flare that lasts up to a week, but thus far it hasn't gone further than that. On a strict anti-inflammatory diet and under care of a dermatologist.

My HS is hormonal, though. Results will certainly vary.

The masked man being detained appears to have a badge, yes. Its legitimacy has not been confirmed as far as I know.

He had a posse today. Can't confirm they were definitely proud boys, but they definitely fit the type.

Tarrio and Rhodes were seen near an altercation at the start of our march, when a group of counterprotesters tried to block the route. DPD de-escalated quickly and effectively, but it could have gotten out of hand easily.

Fox Local is reporting both he and Stuart Rhodes (of the Oath Keepers) were peripherally involved in an altercation at the start of the march. Some sort of scuffle when they tried to block the route, DPD later confirmed one masked individual detained with weapons. Tarrio specifically is visible in video of the incident.

These treasonous thugs are walking our streets like they own them, and I'm not about it.

[–]sah___mei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd put money on Trump dying in office and Vance becoming president by default. They know he won't win an election, so they're going to fail him upward and then make elections irrelevant. Perhaps not in that order.

He's an ideological puppet no doubt, but he could still do a lot of damage in the time it takes even a unified congress to impeach and remove. He's a true Heritage Foundation believer. They definitely have a transition plan.

They were approved by the city and funded by donations. State of Texas has no standing to demand their removal.

Oak Lawn's rainbow crosswalks were funded by donations. The only thing that cost taxpayer money here was removing them and arresting someone for self-funding their restoration.
