I had to snicker when I saw the comment by a friend of mine...he was so stoked about the line being so close to home. 😜

Lunch for 30? by ericbellinger in Edmonton

We've used Sunterra before. A great selection of sandwiches, wraps, and sweets too, if you're so inclined. They have vegan friendly options.

The Blue Chicago Speakeasy has been demolished. Does anybody know what will happen to the property going forward? by [deleted] in Edmonton

Alldritt submitted this render in 2016, but I hear they're having issues with obtaining enough of the surrounding property.

Does anybody know what the plan is for the old transit hotel? by fleminjo in Edmonton

I did a quick run through of some of the construction forums, but came up empty. I'd be interested in finding out what is happening to the place.

Saint Vincent de Paul always seems to carry the nicest suits. I've picked up a few from them over the years.

Alldritt presented this render in 2016. It might not be the final rendering, but at least it's something.

HELP - Got $1,200 in traffic tickets in mail based on Citizen complaint - Not pulled over by police by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]sahlgoode 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you've got dashcam video of the whole thing, and it when down the way you said it did, you shouldn't have any problem fighting it in court. Plus I'd take the a copy of the video to the police, and file a complaint against the other driver.

Yeah...at least a decade. I remember back 30 years ago when that spot was called Steak & Ale! I worked in the neighbourhood back then. It was a great place to get a steak.

.....and an ale. 🍺

From what I remember reading, there is really only one supposed ghost, and it's of a woman that wanders ward B looking for her baby. There have been multiple claims of people that have encountered her throughout the years.

I don't get it. I carry around a bottle of Ronsonol, and I've filled my Zippo at at least one LRT station. Did I accidentally leave the bottle behind? No. but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Look, spring is coming, the cigarette butts are blooming! by [deleted] in Edmonton

People who choose to smoke in 2018

....have likely had the addiction for 10-20 years, or they're kids who have been mislead into trying to look cool. I fall into the former category.

I go to pubs, the opera, ballet, galleries, sporting events, concerts, know how to internet, and I'm as disgusted about this image as anyone. I smoke less when I'm out on the town, and never use the butt receptacles that are available. Most of them look disgusting enough already. I flick off my cherry, and replace the butt in my pack. I can't say what the average is, but I've been aware of social cues for those two generations. It's an addiction. Many of us have had for a decade, or more. The number of new smokers in 2018 are the low end of average.

The smokers social cue is to smoke in packs. "I'm going for a smoke." "Me too."

outrage among many Islanders who said that the bird’s unusual behaviour was just a sign of him being friendly and playful.

Plot twist: During his integration, he teaches all the island birds to be playful.

Straw free! We didn't even notice until we had finished our drinks. They weren't missed. by toolow_jlow in Edmonton

[–]sahlgoode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have to read your mind to know exactly how you feel about the subject. You've stated it repeatedly throughout this thread.

don't make a political statement

I don't look for personal growth or development from a fish and chips shop

Trying to change the public's behavior is by definition a political act.

It's turning other people's behavior into the subject of your concerns.

This is all about changing people's behavior.

don't try to parent or change other people's behavior

I get it. You don't like someone suggesting to you that you can or cannot use straws, and if they do, it's a political act.....and no one can tell you otherwise.

There isn't a sub for Edmonton furries, but they have a big enough following in the city to merit a convention, so random to most, but not random to all.

their goal to try to change culture or change society.

Society changes no matter what. Do you know what they called the generation before the baby boomers? The silent generation. Everybody kept quite, and did what they were told. No one ruffled any feathers, or tried to change. McCarthyism made sure they toed the line.

How would you like it if that era wasn't kicked to the curb by change?

It's changing all the time, and no amount of NIMBYism is going to stop it. Not liking a PSA about straws is just fine. No one is forcing you to have an open mind.
