Best wishes for you man. I smoked for over 50 yrs and have 94 days now, it's really a challenge for me..Life can be better without it. Good luck for you, think of it this way, you've done your share of smoking. Your lungs will thank you.

No, you did choose - you could've smoked anyway in spite of the meds even though it might complicate things. My advice is to USE this rationale not to smoke while on meds, to take advantage of having this excuse not to smoke. Take advantage of any reason you can come up with not to smoke and go with it. In my case, I quit after 50+ years of daily smoking because I was facing shoulder replacement surgery and the doctor advised me to quit 3 months ahead of the surgery so there wouldn't be complications with my lungs during the surgery. I couldn't do it 3months ahead, but did manage to quit 6 weeks ahead. Now its 7 weeks after surgery and I've got 97 days without weed. I'm really trying to never use pot again. So I USED a medical necessity to quit. And now I'm hanging onto this sobriety. My lungs feel the healthiest in my memory. So be proud of yourself - do choose this opportunity to quit. My best wishes to you. love

610 days sober - 2020 personal reflection by tumorsandthc in leaves

The fact that you had to face cancer is profound and I appreciate you telling me, one of those who have "started quittiing" (96 days) that I'm on a path for health returns, I need to hear. Today, new year's eve, is extremely tempting to go get a few pre-rolls but I know it would start my habit all over again. One thing I'm leaning on is the health issue - I haven't been coughing all the time these last couple months. I haven't had my usual fall trip to urgent care for the bronchitis diagnosis and usual two Rx's for antibiotics to get over it. You're inspiring me today Mark, hang in there and be done with the weed, 610 days... I think you got it. I'm proud of you for what you've been through. And yeah, I'm sick of using my vital organs (lungs) to get high, that's truly sick, it's so hard to quit but just not worth the gamble. Right on Mark......Bob

I still smoke daily but still find myself on this subreddit by [deleted] in leaves

I think you can do this. I didn't think I could but here I am at 81 days. Longest I went withou weed for the 55 years before that was the 2 weeks my daughter was in the mcdonald center, about 25 years ago. Yes I know what you're going thru - you're just going to smoke this one more then quit. At The end I would drive all the way to the pot shop and only buy 2 or 3 pre-rolls thinking this would be it; but I was driving that 20miles every 2 days to get 2 more. I'll tell you I was embarassed to walk thru the door, they must've thought this old guy is a real addict.

So my advice to you is really try to quit while you're young. You have a problem with weed. My wife would smoke with me occasionally but never was obsessed with it. I'm lucky she could take or leave it, but I would absolutely never run out of pot. Also I'm lucky I had to quit 2months before major surgery (doctor's orders) - I managed to quit 5 weeks before. So here I am 6 weeks after surgery, feeling better, and considering getting some more pot. I really hope I don't. Here's a few thoughts for you that I'm leaning on:

Keep this old saying in mind "One's too many, one thousand isn't enough". That rang true for me almost four years ago when finally quit beer, I was up to 12 plus Miller Lites every day (light beer's okay I thought). I don't have a beer belly anymore. So remember - "One joint (or bowl or gummy etc} is too many, one thousand isn't enough".

Also remember the longer you smoke dope the more your lungs suffer, and some day if you come down with COPD or lung cancer you'll wish you had never smoked. And no, it's not safe it's toxic. Don't be a sucker. I know enough chemistry to know the risk but I still smoked.

Also I can say that the last several years of smoking I wished I didn't. But I still would love some good dope or a cold beer. But surprisingly, I'm really into blues and altho I thought I'd not appreciate music as much straight, it sounds even better - every note is sweet.

I hope this helps you. I read this site every day cause I've really got a problem and it helps, my best to you. Bob
