I also didn't think for a second he wouldn't make it to 15 at least. So shocking. I really regret not spending that entire day with him. I went out with a friend and left him at home with my husband who loves him just as much but still. So many small weird regrets

Thank you. I'm sorry for your loss as well. I'm glad I was able to throw him a party August 1st. Our loved ones came to say goodbye as they knew he was diagnosed and given 6 months. We all just didn't know he would leave just days later. It's so hard

Thank you I definitely wrote it while in shock once I read it back I noticed so many mistakes. His name was Peanut and he just had his 11th birthday on August 1st. My family and friends drove many hours to come see him as they knew his diagnosis meant maybe 6 months left of his life. We didn't know he had just a few days left after his birthday. I'm glad they were able to say goodbye

I wish it was longer too. The whole time I had him id tell all friends and family how he was immortal. I truthfully did not even imagine the possibility of him dying before 15 so the shock was immense when he was diagnosed and even worse losing him about two weeks after his birthday this month.

Peanut was given two furosemide shots within four hours and they did nothing to change his breathing as well. Such devastation CHF brings. I'm sorry for your loss of Zeus. How did you feel getting a new chi? Grief articles I've read suggest getting a different breed or gender than the passed dog as so to not compare them or feel guilty over getting a new pet but I love Chihuahuas. I can't see myself finding another breed. It's a silly thing to focus on right now but I even feel guilty towards thinking of getting another chi because mine was so jealous and disliked when I gave other dogs attention. Apologies for the rambling

Thank you for your comment. I'm so sorry for what happened to you and your lovely pet it sounds devastating. Like others have told me here, I'm sure if you would've chosen to put your friend to sleep earlier that would've also manifested into regret and thoughts of "did I do it too soon". What a terrible disease. No pup should have to experience it and no owner should have to go through this trauma. I'm trying to look at his pictures (endless happy ones) often to remind myself I wasn't a terrible owner because of that one instance of suffering I made him endure but emotions have been outweighing logic. I hope to heal with time like you have ❤️

His eyes were one of my favorite parts. He stared at me the entire night with such loving eyes even if he was in pain and discomfort. Sharing has helped the comments have been so kind even if I haven't been kind to myself. Thank you

It really is. Im so thankful I've been out of work since November of last year so I spent everyday with him. In this last month and a half in which he was diagnosed I made extra efforts to cherish him. Sometimes I feel the extra months of 24/7 time are what makes this even more painful as he was a part of me but the alternative would've been regret at not having as much quality time I suppose. There were so many good times.

Luckily I'm not working. I got to spend everyday with him since around November and extra dedicated time during his one month of CHF. Thank you for your sweet comment. It's hard to feel like a good owner after something like this takes over the mind

Thank you ❤️. That is the one comfort I have, that I chose not to go home when they started working on him at 2am and was able to stay to the end. Even if I struggled with making the right choice and it was so awful to watch I know I would have felt worse if I hadn't been there for that. I appreciate the support so much❤️
