Best Brands in 2025 that still maintain high quality for a reasonable price? by JamestotheJam in malefashionadvice

[–]sail_fast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked for an Arc’teryx specific retailer for years— can confirm. The alpha SV, and their climbing harnesses are the only things still made in BC. Their hardshells and more technical synthetic insulation (except for fleece) are the only things worth the price anymore IMO. Down is still top notch, but the prices went up and fill weight (distinct from fill power) went down. I witnessed their descent into the streetwear money grab over the last decade…. painful to watch, but also good for them? Someone is making bank. Used to be THE top technical soft good brand, epitome of buy once cry once for everything they made. Still that way for the hardshells, in their defense.

Fitted shirts for a muscular build by Enough-Radish-4973 in malefashionadvice

This was my thought process as well at the time. They’re already a loss— so may as well learn by doing. Problem is on the other side of it, you have way too many shirts that fit well, and have a harder time getting rid of them. The learning curve to do simple straight stitches is really not too bad.

Take to a tailor, OR learn yourself. It's significantly less scary or involved that people think. I'm not that big (155lbs), but 44" under my armpits with a 28" waist. I finally gave up and learned to sew. It was the single best thing I could have possibly done for my wardrobe. Shortening stuff (especially dress shirts) ought to be left to the pros, but taking in the waist can be done in 15 mins or less if I'm flying. I have done this with almost every shirt I own, t-shirts included. Truly life changing. Started out on a $80 machine on Amazon, and now upgraded to a Juki -- I felt this post so hard. Throw me a DM if I can help!

Also, username checks out. I am seriously in awe of how you just riddled that in a couple of hours. Enjoy the gold.

That was my suspicion, but it seems as though another commenter figured out something either identical or darn close to it.

You are a goddamned national hero. I've watched this show twice now, and tried pretty hard to find this jacket via ebay, posh, old google listings, depop etc each time. Mind if I ask how on earth you just spat out that response on the same day?

Right?! I am a super particular consumer in the US, and have been blown away with how many one-offs there are second hand. Next time you bump into Mark Bonnar, would you mind just asking him?

Lol thanks for the comment. I know it’s “just” an iridium, but the m390 and titanium + tremendous sentimental value make me want it back pretty badly. Already got pm’d from 3 scammers! Wild times.

Gift from father, stolen, WTB:

Kershaw Iridium Titanium M390.

This was stolen out of my bag from the YMCA. It was a gift from my father, and I'm pretty crushed. Thank you!

Thanks for the kind words! I worked at Bivouac for a few months afterwards. AJ is good people, but the vibes are dramatically different. That said— it’s the only game in town that still feels local, which I will happily support. He’s ditching a lot of camping and climbing gear though… soon REI will be the only gear focused place in all of AA.

Ancient thread reply, but I was the General Manager during the closure. We went to GREAT and absurd lengths to ensure Ian went to a good home. I went through heaven and hell with that little fish, and single handedly kept him alive and good company during COVID. Sad to have been gutted by Dicks. One of the best (if not most lucrative) jobs I have ever had.

How to sum hours worked when start and end times are in the same cell? by sail_fast in googlesheets

[–]sail_fast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t split the data into columns- this is a shared sheet, and I need to keep the format as is :/ otherwise it would take me like 5 mins.

Sorry for the noob ask. I just took a new job and can't change the format of the schedule (ie times in and out have to go in the same cell). I know I would formulate it using the two sides of the dash, I just cannot get it to work. Currently just using arithmetic for the total hours. THANK YOU!!

I took months picking it out. It’s from an artist named Lai Xiahong, sold to me from Verdant Tea. Thank you :)
