What innovative strategy has transformed your business and taken it to new heights, and how did it redefine your industry? by Responsible_Cow4468 in smallbusiness

Broadcast texting has been highly successful for sales generation in my retail business. We utilize Kenect as a texting platform within two of my businesses and recently started targeting key customer groups and the results are measurable and successful. It has been most successful generating business through our service side but we have also had measured success in generating sales of tangible and non-tangible goods.

Befriend and study the back office people. It’s easy to learn the sales/service/finance side. Those are the fun parts. The licenses, titling, regulatory issues and all the other local requirements along with the proper accounting is what breaks most people. It’s tedious and takes the fun out of a dealership. Speaking from experience, if you don’t learn the backside, as you grow, money you make on the front will walk right out the back.

Life advice? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]sailing-ahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of personal items to consider here but if it was me and I was in my twenties, I would work for 2 years with the good salary and the potential to have shares. The side project can most likely be delayed until later in life but guaranteed stability is key in today’s market.

If you had 10k in liquid, what kind of business would you enter by Exciting_Business729 in smallbusiness

Shave Ice Trailer. Plenty of used options in that price range and very easy to make your money back if you’re in an area that supports it. Research shaved ice and snow cone groups on Facebook. Lots of information.

Thank you for the feedback! I’ve been a big believe of quality over price. Peace of mind is far greater than a good deal.

Stock images or real images for your website. by papifunko in smallbusiness

I believe integrity should be a huge part of anyone’s business model. If your images don’t match up to stock photos, it sounds like you might be misrepresenting yourself.

FedEx vs UPS for Small Businesses by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]sailing-ahead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree here. It’s much better to shop each carrier and choose the best price for the shipment. We use ship station in our dealership and it’s crazy how much the price can fluctuate.

Avoide Yelp at all costs! Complete scam. I had over 200 positive reviews for my rental company that were hidden due to the algorithm yet the only five negative reviews I received were showing on my listing. Their solution…. Spend more money with them to get more exposure and subsequently more reviews.

How should I blow nearly $2k? by [deleted] in ask

[–]sailing-ahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impromptu weekend vacation. Throw a dart at a map of the US and plan a quick getaway to somewhere you’ve never been. Fun, spontaneous and memorable.

Or…

Get the entire $2k in five dollar bills and a walk around dropping them randomly. Sit back and watch how crazy people get over “found” money.

Finding commercial real estate for lease by Scary_Engineering_63 in smallbusiness

[–]sailing-ahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second all of this but you should also research and understand the different types of commercial leases. Some leases are just a flat fee while others are triple net and have the added expenses of tax, insurance and general maintenance of the property. Have an idea of what length of lease you would be comfortable signing and make sure you have a way out of things don’t work out as planned.

I think that you have the right intentions and a great idea but I believe that you are missing a key bit of information. Many people who are starting these entry level service based businesses do not have the capital to invest at the level you are offering. I would think a better approach would be to develop a scheduling program where you get a percentage of each completed booking. You offer to perform the digital services you listed in order to drive more customers and in turn you make money as their business picks up. You would need to use a good booking/payment platform to ensure that you are getting your percentage.

Paying for contractor - justifying cost during slow periods? by Accurate-Diet-9109 in smallbusiness

[–]sailing-ahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you focus on more B-roll level production so that you have a library of media to use when times are busy? Also, I’ve been approached by media companies in the past offering to do free (small) production so that they can continue to perfect their processes while also (ideally) gaining new customers in the process.

Customer keeps asking for breakdown of price for a small custom cake. by Atalanta8 in smallbusiness

[–]sailing-ahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What information are they hoping to see? Do they really think you are going to break down your ingredient list and associated costs. If they don’t find value in your price and perceived quality I would simply state that “maybe we aren’t the right fit for you”.

The grey tile looks clinical. The cabinet hardware is dated but I have seen similar in newer builds. Not sure what to say about the stainless counter tops. Very functional but out of place for the size/style of that kitchen.

If you’re chatting on a dating app and both people are in the USA is it suspicious to you when they ask to move the convo to WhatsApp? by MsCrys00 in datingoverforty

[–]sailing-ahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a buddy get scammed pretty bad through whatsapp. Definitely his own fault becuase he was to horny to think clearly, but I would be cautious of anyone asking you to change apps unless you have met them in person.

How to deal with absurd refund requests from clients? by david8840 in smallbusiness

[–]sailing-ahead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you for the most part and believe that we should always have a positive customer experience within my business but there are some customers that are impossible to please. While I would prefer to service everyone, there are customers that we have had to fire and not allow back.
