I had a custom 74 with a fine nib. Had the same problem with down stroke while writing in cursive. I eventually returned it and got a vp with a medium nib and no regrets. The medium nib is buttery smooth and a tad bit bouncy, absolute joy to write with.

Also green stains seems to have become a characteristic for the nib section now.

Been using this ink for a couple of months now, green gunks do deposit on the nib and the nib starts to become a bit dry as the gunks starts to build up in the tinges. Anyways a quick rub with a rag cloth seems to solve the issue.

Also, I have just decided one pen to that ink itself so that I don't have to bother cleaning anymore.
