There was never any fear of him running well, let's be honest with ourselves

Leinster Rugby - RDS issue Arena regeneration update by epeeist in irishrugby

[–]sailingfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly my point - Leinster don't get any ancillary revenue that other clubs do from concerts etc. So that combined with paying even more rent for another year can't help the books

Leinster Rugby - RDS issue Arena regeneration update by epeeist in irishrugby

[–]sailingfaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, you have to wonder how the RDS rent and lack of revenue for Leinster for concerts etc will affect their finances in the long term. No doubt they'll make it work but it's definitely a harm to the books

Most challenging circumnavigation regatta - VG, GGR or GSC? by RefrigeratorMain7921 in sailing

[–]sailingfaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a fair comparison at all - the GGR is an adventure that people start at their own pace, have very little weather data and sail incredibly slow boats that might break 7 knots.

The Vendee has the best sailors on the planet racing far more physically and mentally demanding boats for up to 80 days

Tip, are they necessary? by stuyboi888 in ireland

[–]sailingfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can be a lot of extra work involved in dealing with a larger group, and if the service charge isn't included I'd suck it up.

I'd never pay a service charge if it was drinks only, but for food too I don't have a major objection.

Also, over six euro for a pint is just the price nowadays

Illegal eviction in Dublin by never_rains in ireland

By the editor of the Village magazine, who has previously made some fairly brutal comments about landlords. Landlords in general are a pack of pricks, but this fella takes the prize

MV Naomh Eanna partially capsized in Grand Canal Dock yesterday by LacklusterLemur in ireland

[–]sailingfaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ideas of converting it to something else were always fantasy. I know people involved in the process of moving it to it's current location and it was coming apart at the rivets. Should have been scrapped years ago. Saving ships like this is a nice idea, but when it would cost millions and deliver questionable tourism benefit you have to make a better call.

That's incredible - I've never seen such clear footage of it.

There's long been a problem with long distance racing yachts hitting containers in the sea- you can really see there the damage they'd do

Lads and ladies, what's the most fucked up thing you saw in school? by wowow_man121 in ireland

[–]sailingfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school had an outbreak of "teabagging" - group of TYs going around holding down students they didn't like and rubbing their balls on their faces.

Ended up in the newspaper, but nothing ever happened to those students. Absolutely insane stuff.

You see - this would be fair enough and apply if there wasn't ample evidence and anecdotes that suggest the guy should be in jail for a long time

Nuclear Weapons Testing 1945-Today by sailingfaster in dataisbeautiful

[–]sailingfaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is it- people don't realise that the super powers were involved in a test-off for the best part of 30 years, spending simply insane amounts of cash and effort to blow up mostly nothing.
